Another NC fail: He stopped reviewing BAD movies

Does anybody remember when the NC reviewed movies like Batman and Robin, Howard the Duck, Superman 4, Star Wars Holiday Special, or the animated Titanic movies.

All of them universally hated movies.

What has Doug reviewed in 2015?

Movies that are merely mediocre but somewhat entertaining(Jupiter Ascending, Fantastic 4, Garfield, or Planet of the Apes), movies that are in the Love it or Hate it territory (read: liked by half of the moviegoers) like Mamma Mia, Pixels, and Osmosis Jones, and the Matrix sequels), and movies that were liked by most people like Jurassic World, Demolition Man and the Matrix.

The only universally hated movies of 2015 were Sharkboy and Lavagirl and Daredevil.

Not to mention that Doug himself has become a bitter person in real life, and that most of the movies I mentioned are too recent.

There's no written law that says he "has to" review bad movies. Doug's NC reviews have gotten to be pretty stale, but it has nothing to do with the stuff he chooses to review, it's HOW he reviews them that makes them less funny, in my opinion.

Doug can review whatever he wants. I just wish he'd lay off on the gay jokes and pedo jokes, they're not very funny.

Well, he got famous once he reviewed Batman and Robin.

Do you think that if he reviewed The Dark Knight Rises, he would have been as popular as now?

reply

Reviewing bad movies is what made him famous, yes, but that doesn't mean he has to review those kind of movies throughout his entire career. Don't you think that would get a little bit boring if he did?

Point is, a reviewer doesn't only have to focus on the bad movies, they can point out flaws in good movies too.

How is what he does now better or more interesting?

I never said what Doug is doing is "better", but as a longtime NC fan, I prefer judging his reviews based on how they're done, not what he chooses to review.

I know I said his Sailor Moon review sucked (and I still think it sucks), but when Doug decides to review movies like Jurassic Park, Hook, The Matrix and Jurassic World, it doesn't mean that he hates them! 

Though I'm pretty sure that Pixels, Garfield, Jupiter Ascending, Burton's Planet of the Apes, and Tim Story's Fantastic Four are hated by almost everyone, not just Doug. I don't know why the OP considers them love/hate movies. The only accurate example of a love/hate movie he gave was Osmosis Jones.

Out of all those movies, only Pixels and Osmosis Jones I said they were love/hate movies.

The rest of them are considered mediocre movies, but not cinematic abortions like Garbage Pail Kids, or the Titanic animated movies.

reply

Okay, but does it matter if Doug wants to review "mediocre" movies too?

I never even liked Garfield, Planet of the Apes, or Mamma Mia anyway. Hell, I remember watching Garfield on a plane once, and I was bored out of my mind!

I haven't seen any of the Fanastic Four movies (not even the new one), but they all look really bland and corny to me.

Hey, uh dumbass, since when has Garfield been a "mediocre but somewhat entertaining" film? Everyone hated Garfield. And Osmosis Jones was love or hate? Hahahaha you have no clue about anything.

Hey, Osmosis Jones may not be considered a masterpiece, but it has gained a considerably large cult following over the years. I've seen tons of Osmosis Jones stuff on Deviantart in the past! 

Though, most of its cult statis has to do with Thrax being a kickass villain.

Osmosis Jones was at least liked enough to have gotten an animated series, Ozzy & Drix.

reply

Oh my gosh, I forgot about Ozzy and Drix! :D

Good call there. 

Yeah, he should do more universally despised movies. Now that you mentioned them, his Shark Boy & Lava Girl and Daredevil reviews have been among my favorites he's done this year.

I think he's just trying to do reviews for nostalgic movies that have some relevance to movies/TV shows currently popular (i.e. reviewing The Matrix movies before Jupiter Ascending was released, reviewing 2005's Fantastic 4 before the release of Fant4stic).

reply

He doesn´t have to review bad movies only.
He is best when the movie itself is ridiculous.
The reviews of movies that are boring usually are boring as well.

reply

Pretty much. When the movie is outright ridiculous and has so many questionable things about it there's plenty of material there to riff on, but when its otherwise boring and uninteresting the review is just a big bore.

reply

pretty sure jupiter ascending, fantastic 4 and garfield are all universally hated movies.

planet of the apes isnt, but it's still a good marker for the start of tim burton's stream of bad remakes, so its an important movie :P

the matrix sequels are also hated by every self respecting matrix fan especially the third one

and he had to review matrix to review the rest, it made it into a theme.

also it's not the first time he reviewed not terrible films (face/off, man of steel, commando, conan come to mind) it's not about what he reviews its how he presents it.

i think his reviews are still good, he just has to stop doing the stupid sketches of in theatre movies without actual footage.

Do you think that if he reviewed The Dark Knight Rises, he would have been as popular as now?

im pretty sure doug could do a hilarious TDKR review, that movie has so many things to poke fun at even if i did like it it's a pretty flawed and ridiculous film, especially by nolan standards.

reply

Who cares? I like the reviews of these movies better. I hate Matrix sequels, I hate Garfield etc. These reviews were great.

reply

Why didn't he review Ouija instead? Now, THAT was *beep* In fact let's create a new meme. It shall be called "Event Horizon: Still a better horror movie than *beep* Ouija".
