The Day Resetting - SPOILERS

I'm trying to figure out when and why the day resets to when it does.

Day one, he arrives in London wakes up on the helicopter. he's arrested and tazed.
He wakes up later in the day at the barracks.
He spends the night at the barracks(Is it mentioned if he got any sleep?), and the next morning they attack the beach, he dies with the alien and the cycle begins. Every time he dies, he goes back to the day before when he wakes up at the barracks.

On the last day, he and Rita get the gizmo, stabs his leg, he sees where they need to go, they have the accident, he loses consciousness, wakes up with a blood transfusion and loses the power.

That night he convinces the squad to help him to the louvres where he kills the alien, dies again with the alien and now the cycle begins again, but from the helicopter.

Shouldn't he have woken up at the point if the transfusion?

I just transposed one my old IMDB forum post that might provide some thoughts on your questions. I'm not sure the filmmakers put that much thought into it, so we have to fill in the gaps ourselves based on what they do show us in the movie.

Note that each time he wakes up in the past, it's literally as he wakes up, which I speculate may be a factor as to exactly when he returns to, inside a roughly 24-hour timeframe (since in the movie it's states that the "days resets"). In other words, everything "resets" for him back to the first time he woke up from being asleep or unconscious within a timeframe of 24 hours from the moment he dies. For most days that's at the barracks, but since the attack on the Omega occurred prior to that, he instead wakes up in the helicopter.
