Don’t understand the hype
There was zero backstory on wtf was going on from the jump.
Half the time I didn’t even know what was going on.

You must be an American. They have problems with subtitles.
Happy 666th comment.
Nah ive watched plenty of subtitled horror
This one had zero backstory on what the threat was. Only that there was a threat and they needed to remove the zombie bloater looking dude or there would be repercussions. What repercussions? From what I understand, if you just leave the bloater alone there are no issues.
The put a lot details. It is a folktale and they explained in details how it works. If you are asking about how this guy got possessed or something, I don't see how this adds to the plot. They would have risked doing too much explaining. I hate movies with that moment, where a character explains it all to the dumb audience.
Though I somewhat agree with you about this part where the monster hunting plot line showed up, but as I said - I don't like much the final "urban fantasy" act.
You had to "kill it" in the correct way and only "trained" people could do it. You were not supposed to move it around. All those mistakes made the "evil" to spread around. They were waiting for long time (close to one year) for a "cleaner" to come and kill it, but the evil infected the young boy and made him kill the cleaner (the guy split in two at the beginning). After that it was a snowball of mistakes.
shareSame. Didn't hate it, but never felt really invested in the story. 6/10 for me
shareAgreed.
The movie had so much potential.
Half of the things didn't make sense, such as the disappearence of Uriel from the truck, the girl being unharmed after she was mauled by the dog, the children from school etc.
I wasn't hooked from the start. I liked the director's previous film Aterrados which was tense and scary.
shareI watched it and didn't really like it.
