What solar system is this?

Are they in Alpha Centauri, 4.4 light years from Earth?

It took 5 years for Jake Sully to travel to this planet. Humans have either near light or faster than light travel. This takes a massive amount of energy. Therefore, humans are well on their way to building Dyson Spheres / orbital habitats.

In this movie they say earth is dying. I foresee waves of human immigrants settling the planet.

This is fucking dumb. With readily available resources in our own solar system, mega structures in space can provide far more livable surface area than any planet. The most valuable resource in any solar system is the Star's energy.

Extra note, we should exterminate immediately any intelligent sentient species. The probability of conflict is near 100% on the universe time scale.

Alpha Centauri

You would be right if you were talking about, say, a Star Trek-type civilization. But the script I read before the first movie was made does a good job of explaining how humans are able to travel to Alpha Centauri so fast.

Humans aren't using warp drives or jumping from 0mph to lightspeed instantly the way Star Wars does. The interstellar space vehicle Venture Star is accelerated to 70-80% of lightspeed by a battery of very powerful orbital lasers striking a ginormous photon sail (which is about 20km in diameter if I remember correctly). This acceleration takes about 6 months. Thereafter it simply coasts the rest of the way since there's no resistance in space. Upon arriving at the Alpha Centari solar system, it decelerates for 6 months using two fusion-antimatter engines.

A civilization doesn't need to be able to build megastructures in order have this kind of space-faring technology.

The problem is humans have used all the “magic dust” leading to rrrrrclimate change.

Looking forward to Avatard 3 when trannies will save humanity.
