Spider

How exactly is he Stephen Lang's son? Was this mentioned in the first one? He had a baby somehow and abandoned it on this planet? Huh?

reply

I didn't get this either. Seemed like they invented a son for him out of thin air to give his character more depth. Presumably it will play a further part in sequels to come.

reply

Yeah, they could have at least said who the mother was or something? Or how it came to be that he exists? Haha.

Unless I’m missing something, like forgetting something from the original maybe? Anyone?

reply

So there’s going to be another sequel? Does that mean we’ll have to wait another 10 years or so for it?

reply

The 'abandonment' was actually briefly explained in the beginning.... but even that made no sense.

After the big fight which the Na'vi won at the End of Avatar 1, those remaining humans who weren't killed were mostly sent back home to Earth; WHERE THEY BELONG ONLY! So far so good logical.
However (somehow [idiotically]) there are also still humans tolerated around in that planted military/science colony instead of burning it all down.
It was actually narrated that a baby born on Pandora couldn't be sent back in those transfer bubbles to survive the long space travel, so Spider had no chance/choice going back. Mother either returning to Earth without her baby as a Single Parent or is dead like father Quaritch.... we must assume by here! Quite ridiculous to assume human shitass brats aged 0-5 would survive in that foreign environment with oxygen survival mask n all without a (adopting) parent looking after him each 2 seconds! Alright but even if you can accept the screen writing until here.

BUT now it gets totally contractory ridiculous which insults your intelligence!

We were shown very few (not even hundreds!) space-ships arriving, scaring the shit out of Jake, Neytiri and entire Tribe. Not even knowing a Quaritch Avatar Resurrection was on board! This assuming for pretty much at least a decade (due to brats' age! Esp. Spider if Avatar brats develop faster!) there was no more human settlement AT ALL!
Next shot we this huge full operating Military Base Colony with a gazillion of ppl knowing each step they do plus a highly respected female General running stuff tight there and in full control. Granted by Quaritch's arrival saluting her in honor without even badmouthing behind her back/trying to gain her rank for himself.
Those 2 totally colliding story-telling angles made no sense AT ALL! The General Authority/That Colony must have been constant progress over many years. The normal usual human invasion.
If Spider rather wanted to live at the Na'vi tribe could have been done like with Jake or that Sigourney Weaver brat Kiddy, Kirby, whatever... - everyone spelling her different! If not he would have been way more integrated in his human colony! How can an entire military-science colony just not care about that kid around, presumably first-born (only born) Pandora Baby?! Running back n forth 'with the Enemy'? He was a Golden Key even way before Quaritch arrived. A/That General wasn't dumb!!! Most dumb to portray Quaritch needing to capture him and he gets brutally tortured to reveal a bit of Navi infrastructure! Like WTF?! As if he wouldn't daily clown around the human colony to re-gain oxygen n all! As if a 6, 9 ,13 yrs old wouldn't have done Blablablablablah his daily adventures all the time by himself for all those years! And most basic info they want out of Spider was known latest with the Big Battle in Avatar 1. Also with everything Dr Grace and her Science Division had done in re-search.

So yeah whenever seeing that Lil Pisser automatic brain-aches throughout the entire movie: "WHO THE HECK WOULD EVEN BE YOUR MOTHER?!" Dr Grace or Unknown Female Soldier - both totally unrealistic! They go for an angle in Avatar 6 that Quaritch raped Dr. Grace for a PG-13 movie.... yeah! Nothing off limits by now!
Spiders actions were as trash egoistical as typical human. Best visibly during entire lenghty Whale Murder trying absolutely NOTHING before days later morphing into Superspiderman taking on an entire war ship with a 100 soldiers on board! Saving his satanic Avatar-Father was upmost psycho trash moment! Just for another needless Avatar 3-8 sequels! Avatar 2 was already pointless other than a cheap cash grab from a degenerated 21st Trash Millenial Youth, totally corrupted by media!

Yeah, I'm really just wondering who had sex with him, haha.

Quartich probably hooked up with one of his female recruits who died in the action at the end of the first movie. It wasn't just the military in Pandora, there must've been a whole community of service people to work the infrastructure and labor needed to support the militia and professionals.

Some of them must've stayed behind with the chosen people who were allowed to remain in Pandora and raised Spider (who also grew up with Jake's family after a certain age). Those humans would've had their own living and working quarters, and it's not hard to imagine them taking care of a freak kid who had been orphaned. The new General does tell Avatar Quartich that those spider bot looking things can build building and things very fast, that they've done more in 1 year than what the previous community did in a decade or something. Which is why they had those buildings, Mag Lev trains and more.

As for Kiri, my guess is Aywa took human / Na'vi form and was born as her (which would explain her being able to manipulate the flora/fauna & hear Aywa's heartbeat), perhaps to play a much bigger role in the sequels, with Spider probably becoming a villain after being alienated mostly by Neytiri, maybe. I think they'll cover Kiri's origin in the next movie or the one after. That said, it would be funny if Norm is her dad lol (although they didn't show him make any personal comments when he comes over to scan & revive her after her collapse).

When you're too poor to see it in a cinema you'll have to wait for it to be available on a streaming service. Until then, I suggest you avoid reading spoilers. You seem not to grasp the storyline.

Does anyone have an actual answer to this?!? I figured there would be Avatar superfans hopping on to school me in seconds.

Answer: Disney executives tell Cameron : if you want to make 4 more movies you should give some characters to root for for the younger generation. So he invents some long forgotten kid in order for him to get a role as antagonist in the following movies vs Jake's children, because in Avatar 3 Jake's gonna die.
Because Disney knows best.
They did same with Star Wars, and everyone is crazy right now about the characters in the latest trilogy.
Same with Avengers, everyone I know is cannot wait to see what is up with the new, younger Avengers roster.
Disney are geniuses.

Sure, I just mean as far as in the actual story. Where did the kid fucking come from?? lol
