I was watching a review where they said that some scenes were at a higher frame rate and some scenes were at a lower frame rate. Is that true? It sounds so strange to me. For those who have seen it, what did you think of the changing frame rate? Did it seem like there was some kind of artistic intent behind it?

shareNo, changing the frame rate would be like turning the "motion smoothing" effect on a TV on and off. So some scenes look normal and other scenes have smoother motion like a soap opera. Here's an example: https://youtu.be/9hVEaW0yHiw

shareThe 24 fps looks like a movie to me. The 60 looks like real life, but in a weird, almost fake way. I think it's because I'm not used to seeing real-looking motion/action in a film.
shareIn classic hand drawn animation they switched between 6, 12, 24 drawing per second depending on motion.
In CG they may do the same to render it faster. I doubt the projector can change frame rate though.
One more reason to skip it.

My theater had the option of it also playing in the traditional framerate and no 3D, so that was awesome. Played like any other movie, just way more detailed than any other movie.
shareStandard movie fps is 24, with 3D and Cameron it comes in HFR (high frame-rate). Basically it smooths out certain select scenes with greater detail (gameplay it reduces latency). Since it's dynamic/variable frame rate you'll see some high intensity scenes jump from 24 fps to up to 48 fps. You can't see anything better past 60 fps anyway but we have games that go up to 120 or higher. Also good for sports.
Saw it in IMAX 3D HFR. About 75% of the movie was in 48FPS. Looked great, but was a bit jarring when it switched between the two. All of the action scenes are in 48FPS
