I think the movie took many liberties with the facts

Not that that always matters but i'm sure most stuff was altered for the movie. One thing I know from the special features alone was that frosty didnt meet jay until he was 15 or so. Im not saying its a deal breaker but I just wish it remained more true to who Jay was.

Yea, that happens when you make bio pics, not everything is going to be perfect, i just hate when they play too loose with the facts.

Invincible.

Vince Papale was a real person and a chunk of his story is tre, but there were no open tryouts for eagles players. Vince was actually playing for a team in the World Football League (failed league) and that is how he met Dick Vemeil.

I hate that, some of them Im never familar with the original story but I wish they didnt have to improvise so much. I mean if the story cant stand on its own then why even bother to tell it? Black Dahlia is one too. That hardly focuses on elizabeth short at all. I know men of honor did it too. Apperently the deniro character was all fiction.

What difference does it make, unless you were one of the people in Jay's family or circle of friends? If you enjoyed the movie, and only found out later some of the events were created for the movie, how does that take away from your enjoyment while you were watching it? A movie like this is NOT the same as a documentary of someone's life.

Make a choice, to take a chance, to make a difference.

You are probably right about that it doesnt make much difference that 95%-99.99% of the dialog, character interactions and motivations is totally made up from a loose framework of truth if its a good movie.

The thing that pisses me off is why they make movie "based on a real story" when they dont even trust the story to be interesting enough to an audience in its original form.

Its kind of like saying Jay's life and story isnt interesting at all without all the added hollywood drama content.

Thats disrespectfull IMHO.

Exactly, it didnt hurt my enjoyment but I think i would have enjoyed it more had it NOT made up a lot of stuff. It should at least give us more into jays life and who he was. It didnt need the added melodrama.

This was a GREAT movie! Loved it but upon further instigation I think the facts alone should have stood.
What was wrong with him meeting Kim when he was 15 instead of as a child?

You are correct. It isn't a documentary but I'm tired of the dumbing of American movies.
It’s good to dream

Well if you look up information on Jay, you'll find that Jays father is the one that got him interested in surfing. I don't know if his father abandoned the family or not. I think the reason they had Frosty save Jays life and inspire him to surf was to establish their relationship. They probably kept the father out all together to make Frosty more of a father figure. If you think about it, another mentor would have been awkward and taken away from the story.

Quite a lot of stuff in the movie is true. This link may prove interesting for some posters.

But a lot of the big items in the movie were invented:
E.G. The rescue of Jay by Frosty
The 3 month training routine
The first time out at Mavericks and having the Iron Cross wipeout.

Almost all, if not all, biopics do this and it's annoying. Normally I can reconcile it by thinking that if they hadn't made a blockbusting movie about it, I wouldn't be looking into the story in the first place. But when I already know the story (as I did when I watched The Keeper) I just get p****d off when I'm watching. "that never happened...that never happened....why aren't they showing such-a-bit......that never happened...."etc
And I refuse to watch Bohemian Rhapsody because from what I've gathered huge chunks of it are completely inaccurate.
Thanks for those facts about Invincible - didn't know that. I also felt the "love story" with Elizabeth Banks seemed a bit contrived, not to mention unnecessary to the story
