First Impressions of Chris Evans and Matt Le Blanc

Matt clearly was uncomfortable in the studio segments, and in and around Chris Evans.

However in the bits where he was on his own, those were the best bits on the show, especially that review of the off-roader, which was by far the best bit of the show.

He is new to this and if given a run I think he could do fine.

As for Chris Evans, I don't know the guy and had no clue who he was till this ep. So I am not say this with any prejudice but that guy doesn't belong on a car show.

He just has no screen presence, and has the personality of a wet rag, and it was a terrible mistake to have him be on top gear ... for want of a better word, a 'rebel' show, if you get what I am saying.

The final let down was the writing and the concept. To start a show with so many revamps the route to go was big, have some 'real' challenges, and racing two reliants a total joke of a car around, was just the worst route to go.

Top Gear challenges are the highlights of any show and this was a joke compared to the previous challenges.

What didnt help was that the main presenter looks like a wuss, who has no screen presence and personality of a wet rag.

Get better challenges and change that Chris Evans guy and the show could still be salvaged.

After the first minute you're just sat there, with your head in your hands, trying to fathom just why Chris Evans.

From the over compensation in his constant shouting, to the cringe inducing 'We got custody!' at the announcement of the Stig, it's clear Evans does not have what it takes at all. Every single frame with him in it is just awful, simply awful.

It's clear his ego will kill the entire show, with the patronising treatment of Matt as an almost 'guest host' throughout, clearly showing he's threatened by the stars fame and general likeability.

With all of Evans complete lack of talent, coupled with the terrible changes to the tried and true formula, we have a programme that feels like a fans tribute, or just an evolutionary bottle neck seen countless times before in attempts to bring series' back from the dead.

Having an off road section to the reasonably priced car was just pointless, but squaring off two celebrities in a desperate attempt to inject some edge into the show was just so awkward it's difficult finding the right words. Eisenberg and Ramsey? Introducing each other? Evans handles it with all the grace and empathy of an insufferable child, patronising to the last and clearly unable to create a rapport with either.

I never understood the love for Evans' TFI Friday, I'm completely dumbfounded as to what was attempted here.

I think Evans would work as third banana, but not key host. I sort of enjoy him, he's just grating. Like, in the final segment with the jeep and land rover, he was pretty good. But in the studio and running the interview, just terrible. As for the two celebs, they gotta run guys around that track quick as they can to fill up the board with some times. I don't mind that.

Never liked Evans in ANYTHING he has done - Big Breakfast, TGIF etc.

No reason to expect him to be any different here.

LeBlanc however is a cool guy - the type you would be happy to share a beer with.

Keep him and have a different guest host every week and the show should be fine.

I feel sorry for Le Blanc, he seems like a good guy and doesn't deserve to be around someone as odious as Evans.

The British public have known Chris Evans is a massive *beep* for about twenty years.

Horrid! And YES worse, now, than the US version.....I never thought that was remotely possible! LOL!

The folks at the BBC leadership who were in charge of host selections should be moved into accounting. They have NO CLUE(!!) what works creatively.

Evans is supposedly a douche (though I haven't seen that side of him as an American) and Leblanc is extremely poor "host material". Leblanc is stiff and uncharming--non-entertainer material. Leblanc killed it as Joey on Friends but now he's old and rich and not hungry enough to put in the energy to be charming and adventurous.

There's a universe of extremely charming people out there who know enough about cars, and the BBC gets these two. LOL!

What an absolute abortion!

This atrocity is so bad that they haven't even hired anyone to do fake ratings, reviews and forum posts on IMDB. It's obvious they don't believe in their own product.
