Do Chris and Matt dislike each other?

Don't think I've seen a more awkward pairing. There was one point where Matt had been talking and then Chris takes over and says something like 'see you later' in such an abrupt way it was more like he was telling him to piss off! 

LeBlanc will be gone after this first season - the Ginger Minger won't stand for someone being more popular than he is on his own show.

reply

Its been in the papers for the last month that they hate each other.

reply

The show is a trainwreck with the hosts.

Lets face it. It's an auto show with slick editing.

People stick to the show b/c of the charming, quirky hosts.

Matt Leblanc is such a tool. You feel he wants off the show. When he insultingly quipped where Blackpool was and whined about the long ride in that POS, I facepalmed. Dude, you're on a foreign show. Do your research on your phone for crisakes w/out the help of your assistant, LOL. And watch some old shows. Long rides in arduous conditions is part of the deal.

He won't come back for an S2. That' pretty much a given.

I don't think that Blackpool thing was supposed to be an insult, more like a sarcastic, or not event a sarcastic remark, more like Matt is the tour guide of England for non-english viewers. Also for me personally, Chris was the show ruiner with his try-hard funny attitude. I would love to see more Sabine and Matt segments than Matt and Chris segments.

reply

Chris doesn't need to try and be funny, he has been a presenter/host all his life. He is just who he is. He is typically very excitable when he is interested in the subject. People either like him or hate him, but a huge amount like him enough to sell a show. Le Blanc hasn't got his smarts.

Chris is a good choice for this show, and he is very experienced at doing the talk show segment. Le Blanc just couldn't manage that part. Le Blanc is ok I suppose, but will only get another series/season if the chemistry keeps improving during the shows this run .

It seems as though Le Blanc and Chris are both trying To become the Alpha, the problem is it won't work with Mat as the alpha, he doesn't have the vocabulary or experience to front the show, but at the same time I can't see him accepting a beta role. So it's change(stop trying to copy the Clarkson v Hammond and May method) get rid of Mat, or dare j say it get a third wheel , that would dilute any hate the two may have at present for each other. Just because they (may) hate is each other now, it doesn't mean they will in the future.

I hope Matt becomes more comfortable with his role. That's the only way he'll be good. I don't mind there being an American on the show, but at least be natural.

reply

I agree, However bringing him in just because he is American isn't the greatest idea from the BBC. Working for a 'US v Brit culture' stereotype feels forced and feels done just to buy the US audience. Everyone feels the same problem whether they like the show or not. They dont seem comfortable together.

Pick the main Host and then bring in mates, work around the main host at the least, even if the two dont know each other - workshop there chemistry before casting! Ok I am not thinking about Gaza and Five bellies. Does anyone remember Will from TFI?

That was great chemistry. Chris in all of his previous roles in TV and Radio has allways had a great rapport with fellow presenters. This at present is awkward and strange.

Finding another Mat Leblanc is as easy as picking strawberry's in the summer. Finding a new Clarkson let alone an Evans is infinitely harder.

Can't agree. Matt is much more likable and has been the best part of Top Gear so far.

Need to get Sabine involved more.

reply

I disagree.

Matt was pretty good in the filmed segments. It's a shame because I think he would have done pretty well as a semi regular with the old guys. There is no chemistry between him and Evans in the studio though.

reply

It is hard to tell if there is actual dislike but there is certainly no camaraderie.
I think that is one of the main problems with the new Top Gear..the previous trio were actually good friends and took the piss. That is quite British.
The ginger whinger and Le Blank have no rapport but there is a forced totally fake bonhomie. Somehow American.
Although anything with Evans is an instant fail.

reply

I think Chris hates Matt. Matt seems above it all. IMO, Matt is great. He's actually pretty good on this show. Chris is terrible. And his voice. It literally gives me a headache, i'm not being dramatic. His high pitched tone drills right through my head like a screaming child. However, Matt being clueless about UK in a UK based show isn't very good for the show. None of it is working so far, and maintaining the old format makes it especially jarring.

Everyone dislikes Chris Evans. He's a twat.
