They didn't want too much of a change instantly so they got 2 older white blokes and basically kept the same formula [though it's an utter shadow of it's former self]. yes it's being slagged off now but it would have been 10 times worse if the all pc cast was there from day 1 as that would have been too obvious ...so i bet the 2 older white blokes will become more and more in the background before they're dropped altogether.
then the show can become more ethnic and LGBT friendly. the BEEB changed the Master in Dr Who from male to female for chrisakes [which is so bloody bad and cringeworthy you want to bite yer own face off] so i wouldn't put anything past these pratts at the BBC.

The Clarkson/Hammond/May run was not Non-PC. (Besides Clarkson's off-show actions)
Was there something outright inappropriate about their version that viewers should have been offended with?
I think those of you claiming PC are just glorifying the old cast as "edgy".
Well despite some idiots banging on about how Clarkson was racist [the only alleged evidence of this being some mumbled rhyme which many people say when he was trying to decide on something and that "slope" comment which was describing the actual slope on a bridge] the show was perfectly acceptable and there was plenty of ethnicities and women on there.
The show even had some gay bloke on there and Clarkson took the piss out of himself by pretending he was scared of him and had to leave....he was sending himself up. the people Clarkson,May and Hammond took the piss out of was themselves.

Just looked up both incidents. The rhyme doesn't seem like anything unless there was something I missed. The slope thing does seem intentional imo. Like an attempt at a racist joke that missed it's mark.
Anyway I never found anything purposely inappropriate in their version. Just the adult humor and poking fun at others now and then. Typical stuff. Although I did not watch consistently.
If anything Clarkson comes off to me as someone who just doesn't know when to stop and leads to him being obnoxious. Like he wants to be funny all the time but won't censor himself.
Your right to an opinion does not equal an opinion that is right
I think what people seem to miss here is the following.
That "slope" joke had to be broadcast with BBC approval. Even if it was an ad lib by JC, the film was edited and reedited. There is no way that wasn't known about before broadcast.
Well this is the thing. maybe Clarkson didn't have any idea the word was supposed to be some derogatory term. I'd never heard of it and i bet most other people haven't either.

Andy works pretty closely with clarkson and the others as they are all mates.
Andy didn't say who thought of the joke but to me it's a little to obscure to just happen upon an insult term by accident, just like the argie bargie with the Porsche plate...and the bbc still let all this air on tv...
at the end of the day clarkson and co aren't totally guilty.
