I love Kevin Hart and I think he was able to make the guest segment more entertaining, but I still fell asleep in the middle of it. When I went back to figure out where I dozed off I discovered that the guest segment was 20 minutes! 20 ?%@#!^& minutes. That's a third of the show. What the hell?
I like that the guests give their first car and best car. It's nice hearing their stories behind them since they usually only talk about movies and such in other interviews.

But it feels so forced and uncomfortable. And Chis Evans only makes it worse. Also, what's the point of having the audience vote on it. Who cares what the audience thinks? They are two completely distinct guests that don't know each other. I think they are trying to recreate the Tom Cruise Cameron Diaz interview that was filled with rivalry, competitiveness and fun but that came from two people with serious chemistry. Also this tell me what the other person is doing just adds to the scripted feeling of the entire conversation. It is by far the weakest point on this show (and that's saying something).
The audience votes just for fun. It's no big deal. Who cares what any audience thinks? They had a bunch of people standing around before too.
Having two distinct guests is nothing new. Graham Norton and James Corden have their guests on at the same time. Usually 3 or 4. It's kinda nice for everyone to have one big conversation.
I think you're just looking for something to complain about because of the change up.

I think you're misunderstanding my criticism. I don't have a problem with two guests appearing, I have a problem with them trying to make it super competitive. I think some guests will be competitive and that will come out and be fun, while others won't be and they will bring their own flair to the show. Competition only works when people are bought into it and neither the guests nor the audience buy into the Chris Evans' best car competition. Which brings me to both of our points, "the audience votes for fun". There is nothing at stake so asking the audience to vote doesn't move the story forward, it just feels uncomfortable. Have you ever tried to get your friends to vote for something just for the sake of interacting with them? Probably not. If you ever ask your friends to give you their opinion you are probably interested in what they have to say, to influence your own opinion. Chris Evans isn't interested in what the Audience has to say, he treats the audience as a tool to entertain us and it comes through.
I'm personally happy for the change up! It's the two Christmases syndrome for me. We're getting both TGT and TG. I also have faith in the executive team that put together the Top Gear we all grew to love. I think they will figure it out and give us another amazing variety show. I just don't think they've done it yet.
So you're just upset the audience vote is meaningless? First car/best car is just for fun, to hear about the guest's cars.
They already have the lap times for the competition element. Which has always been just for fun too actually. Nobody wins a trophy or a prize.
Clarkson,Hammond,May used to ask the audience questions that did not decide anything either. Just general interaction. I don't understand why this specific thing bothers you so much.

The problem is Evans is a terrible interviewer. Clarkson used to ask interesting questions. Evans needs a lot of help from the guests which is why he added the stupid car poll.
This. A lot. Do not hate any other part of the new format (as it's not a very new format) but the interview is horrible still, and the two guests is just dumb. It's not working.
The guest segment is horrible. So long, so boring. Meanwhile over on Extra Gear they're having a sitdown with legendary car guys who have wonderful stories and have actually had fundamental impact on the entire motoring industry.
"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"
Since I download these episodes instead of watching them live, I can just fast forward through the entire painful segment. I don't think I've missed anything at all that was actually good in the first 5 episodes.
well extra gear isn't much better when it comes to guests.
rory is worse than evans.... rory only cares about himself, when the guests are talking rory waits for any gap to make some lame joke and then becomes hysterical nearly falling out of his chair, and if the guest is talking too long rory interupts and then talks about something else like his favoutire subject 'himself'. or hurries on to the next segment.
if you watch ep4 when he's in the car with eddie jordan watch how his eyes glaze over when eddie talks and his smile disappears, untill he can talk and joke and it's back !
Also when he was in the e type with norman, he showed no respect or thought for the car when he couldn't change gear smoothly... just a little laugh/giggle/smirk...
and when norman told him off he just looked blankly at him..
