I don't think you guys understand how we got to this point.

1. Clarkson loses it and hits a producer.

2. The BBC realize they have to fire the best money-making star on their best money-making show ever.

3. SOMEBODY or SOMEBODIES at the BBC with the power to make it so, think that it would be GREAT if they could get Chris Evans to put together the new Top Gear. Not just HOST IT, but REASSEMBLE A NEW SHOW FROM THE ASHES. This is what people fail to understand: Chris Evans wasn't just hired as the host, he was given Carte-Almost-Blanche to create the new show. He's PRODUCING the show not just hosting it.

4. Nobody tells these Somebodies that hiring Chris Evans as the Producer / Host of the new Top Gear is a terrible, awful mistake.

5. Here we are.

6. Chris Evans isn't going to get canned unless he cans himself, or the SOMEBODY in point 3. above admits he or they have made a terrible, awful mistake. Which has never, ever happened in the history of television production.

I wasn't even aware of the fact that Evans is producing the show. I thought he was just a presenter. But you are certainly right that nobody tells the Beeb what to do. They were completely deaf to any criticism about Evans even before they new show started. Why should they listen now?

If they've got any sense they will scrap TG completely and hope that Clarkson, Hammond and May will be enticed back when their Amazon contract comes to an end. But Amazon will probably, and can afford to, fight to keep them so the boys will likely be in a very comfortable position in terms of what they want and where they want to do it. Again, that's IF the beeb come to their senses. If Clarkson misbehaves, give him a red card and suspend him unpaid. I feel confident that GT (love they just reversed the letters lol) will be very good, even if they can't do stuff like SIARPC (is that a big deal anyway?) or have The Stig. I'm crossing everything that they will keep The News segment. That was my second favourite part of TG.

i have a feeling clarkson might retire once they've wrapped the 3rd season. and may and hammond will probably try to continue on with other projects..

not that i want him to retire the world needs him.

i think if they have any sense have him do films and mostly behind the scenes stuff.... but i doubt his ego will like it so he'll probably quit and make up some stuff to make himself feel better.

Why do you think Clarkson would retire? I'm pretty sure Mr. Clarkson loves the salary he gets every season so much, that he will find the necessary strength to keep on doing TV-shows for many years to come. Who would say no to +£10 mill. per year, equal to £800.000 per episode!? I can assure you, not Mr. Clarkson!

he's getting old, health isn't what it was, and still has to do long days for filming and traveling and driving 'wrecks' takes it toll..

also it's the fact they only signed for 3 'years/seasons' and there comes a time when even these guys have to say 'enough is enough'.

and a final point is insurance, it might get a bit pricey to cover them or even once they reach a certain age will anyone insure them for accidents and damage when driving some expensive car?

I know 56 must seem ancient when you're 12 but don't worry Mr Clarkson isn't going ANYWHERE.

Also to suggest a 56yo a 47yo and a 53yo will soon be too old to drive makes you sound like an absolute IDIOT.

Don't bother responding with anything other than "I'm sorry I will go away and grow up now"

I just read the rumor/report. I've never seen Chris in anything else. I don't really care either way if he stays or goes. I like Matt. I liked 'Friends' but he seems like a cool guy too.

I have to ask though. With all the criticism (obviously some was simply just for the sake of it changing) does anybody care about the actual subject of the show...cars?

That's why I watch. Because I love seeing the cars and the different tests they do. I love supercars so I always try to catch those segments and episodes.

Everyone is making such a huge deal over the hosts. It's important but people seem to be making that the whole focus.

Good question and I see your point.
The thing is Top Gear was always a show that did not only cater to the hard-core petrol heads, but also to people like me who like cars (fast cars) but aren't exactly knowledgable about them.
With this show it has always been to an almost overwhelming degree about the presenters and their funny, brilliant, irreverent and above all politically incorrect style. They all had personality, Evans has nothing. Things like that can make or break a show.

Ya Clarkson, Hammond and May were fun to watch. I don't think they were "politically incorrect". Not anymore than anything else. I mean people keep saying that but what does it even mean?

I know what the term means. I meant what about those 3 hosts was more politically incorrect? I still think people are glorifying them. They were not doing anything "bad" compared to other entertainers.

It's not like they were getting away with things that others don't or wouldn't.
