When you're rich..

like he was (flying first class, business class, staying at the mariott) of course searching for happiness is easy, fun and adventurous.

The whole upper class thing was a let down for me. I guess some people like to see that kind of thing.

It would appear the entire point of the film went straight over your head. Either that or you only watched the first 30 minutes.

All the rich partying and everything did not make him happy. Even Edward realized he was not happy as he dropped Hector off at the airport. And then beyond that, they didn't touch on the upper class thing again. In fact, this movie is rare in that it covered all bases adequately rather than focusing on one specific point of view.

What film were you watching? The OP has a valid point; Hector had lots of money to fly first class and to all these different places. Without money he'd have never been able to find his happiness. If he inter-railed it, slept in hostels, thumbed for lifts etc I'd have given more thought to this film. As it is, it's totally devoid of reality.

The scene when Hectoring says he's not rich after seeing his luxurious London flat overlooking Tower Bridge was when I stopped taking this film seriously

I honestly don't mind these type of films as long as it doesn't try to pass off as being relatable to everyone. But it does (and it certainly doesn't cover all bases). Tell me, how many people can just quit their job on a whim and fly all over the world? Only a certain class...
