Is Christopher Plummer's character based on Csikszentmihalyi (Flow)?

I feel that the Plummer character (Prof. Coreman) represented an important theme in the film, IMO the most important theme, which seemed to be very similar to the point of the book "Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience" by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (a professor of psychology).
