'She pushed it out....'?

On the baby's naming day, when Mavis and Buddy are alone in the baby's room, he says, referring to his wife, "I got her a drumset", to which Mavis replies, "you're so thoughtful".
His response is "well hey, she pushed it out."

By 'it', I assume he's referring to their child. That a little cold and out of character for him. Weird writing?

...then whoa, differences...

reply

Well yes it could mean that. I have to admit that when I first heard the line, I just took it to mean she floated the idea, she'd like a drum set.🐭

reply

He's a total jerk, this was him being who he is, a total jerk.

Scientologists love Narnia, there's plenty of closet space.

reply

Another possibility: she pushed [the drumset] out as something she wanted.
In other words, he wasn't being thoughtful, just the bankroll.

reply

That's possible, but that just seems like odd phrasing is all. Wouldn't people normally say 'she put it out there'?

...then whoa, differences...

reply

Odd is fitting. He didn't want to blatantly blame his wife for requesting the present.

reply

He was just kidding. It's just a silly expression. It does not make him a jerk. Nothing in the movie indicates that he was a jerk. Everything in the movie indicates the opposite.

IVE SAID THINGS LIKE THAT...IN JEST OF COURSE...WHICH WAS HIS INTENT I BLIEVE.
