Isn't this kind of disrespectful?

Seeing as the plot of this moive actually happened (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Douglas_Wells ) isn't it in poor tastle to make a comdey aout it?

reply

Kind of. It's usually the point of dark comedy, in which certain elements that are taboo or macabre in real life are mined for humor.

However, the film isn't exactly similar to the Wells event (Wells was actually in on it).

Weird is the new normal.

im not sure what the true story is, i dont care enough to investigate, but there is like 157 movies about bank robberies and many of them involve getting someone else to rob the bank for you.

Yes the police and federal investigations concluded that Wells was involved all along, but had been double-crossed. Some folks were skeptical of that conclusion though. If you're interested, this article from a year ago is a must-read:

It is, if you have a vagina where your penis should be, and you are freaking hippie that is so brainwashed by the PC media that it turned your entire life into looking for things to cry about.

Otherwise, no, it's not. It's a funny movie that got it's inspiration from an even funnier story about a loser trying to hit it big, failing, and paying the ultimate price for his stupidity.

Not that career delivery guys are losers, but career delivery guys that actually participate in a plot to get "some guys inheritance" with a prostitute....Sorry..having a hard time feeling bad about this.

well, i think anything can be funny, Its been years since that event transpired and thus has become a part of history and folklore. People can use the story for various reasons and the filmmakers chose to use it as the basis for a dark comedy.

the above poster mentioned paying the price for stupidity. it makes me think of the darwin awards

@ jawsfan007 - while I do agree that anything can be funny, it is not even 9 years since the event itself, & 4-5 years since the supposed people behind it were convicted.

5 years or even 10 is definitely not long enough for anything to be considered 'folklore'.

While I am usually one of the 1st to tell the PC brigade to pipe down, in this case most people involved with the incident or family members of those people are still around, and I can't imagine the bad press surrounding the movie did any favours for its box office returns.

In my opinion it is actually very funny movie (I'm from the UK and wasn't aware of the real story till I came on here) but if they had only changed a few of the details they could have brushed many of the comparison critisism aside but as it stands the basic story is identical to the actual event. For example, why did Travis & Dwane have to have the money to kill his father for his inheritance? The motive for the money isn't really that important to the story so they could have changed this to anything!

Somebody has already asked why the protagonist had to be a pizza delivery guy...Again they could have easily changed this to something else - even just another type of food, Chinese or anything...

Minor plot details could have been changed and they would still get the same movie and less of the controversy...it just seems like a bad move from whoever makes the decisions over there...
