How did this get made?

I don't get it. It's just a series of CGI environments and characters just move around these worlds with zero reasons why they are doing anything or why they are going from A to B. The "Mrses" babble random things, the brother, sister and other people go on about how much they love each other and that's the whole movie.

There is no coherent narrative structure, no goal or obstacle to overcome, just going from one computer generated fantasy world to another.

The only part that worked was in the beginning when the main character missed her father. As soon as they started teleporting around the movie totally fell apart.

How could so many Hollywood people involved in this project not insist this be totally reworked or simply scrapped?'

I know this is a movie aimed at children, but that doesn't mean it can't be good for adults as well. A few years ago, I got a blu-ray of a movie from MY childhood that I saw when it came out in the theaters: The Dark Crystal. Not only did the visuals hold up incredibly well (and are far superior to this film) but the story is coherent and it's simpy a superb film. For kids.

I didn't know much about the film coming into it. I certainly want more female directors in Hollywood (I really liked Lady Bird one of my favorite films of the past year) and more diversity, but the movie has to be a good movie as well. This was almost unwatchable.

I totally agree with u, this film was pointless I think they really thought because Oprah and Reese Witherspoon was in it people will flock to see it and forget every flaw.

Their was no point to nth, ok she was looking for her father but what was the point of each different “world” just to show us the visual effects?

The director tried to make scenes feel important with so many closeups to peoples faces but it was just annoying, also in one scene where Reese turnt into that big flying bird the kids got on her back and she flew very far from the area the roses and oprah was but when the kid falls from her back he ends up falling right where Oprah and the gossip roses were ? Tf?!

I was thinking the same thing during that scene. They were flying for a while, but I guess they didn't go anywhere? Why were they flying in the first place? To go nowhere?

Lmao

We are living in delusional times where everything is supposed to be perfect and we can't criticize anything.

Is someone stopping you from posting your thoughts on this forum?

What did you think of this film?

reply

stopping me? what do you mean?

reply

What is stopping you from criticizing the film?

Even the mainstream media critics criticized this Disney blunder.

reply

I don't understand what you mean.

reply

You say we can't criticize anything, but isn't that what we are doing?

Xen's logical fallacy: Missing the point.

Theonion.com, as usual, captures this perfectly:

I was going to even point out how people want something new and different, and people are flocking to 'Black Panther' which is actually an entertaining film.

reply

what is your point?

reply

Liberal reviewers are walking on eggshells criticizing this movie for obvious reasons.

reply

absolutely, I wonder how will all of this backfire.

reply

Because it's based on a superb book that happens to have been written for children, but is so good it's enjoyed by adults as well.

Which would have been great, had they stuck to the novel, but instead made it into something oh so 2010s.
