and the reason is...Studio dont really count The Marketing costs....Studios count on Making Marketing costs back AFTER the film leaves theaters...
From Blu ray/DVD sales(now steaming sales), From TV Revnue and from Product placement....
for example, Lets take a film like The Bye Bye Man(A Low budget horror movie)
The Budget for this film was 7.4 Million dollars...
The Studio knows the movie probably has a 20 to 40 Million dollar box office expectation, Meaning at best the hope is, it makes 40 Million in theaters but at worst probably 20 M
The Studio would then set a Marketing campaign based on this, So Bye Bye Man probably had a 5-10 million dollar Marketing campaign
this marketing Campaign money would not factor it at all in the studios expectations for a Theatrical box office gross...
The Studio would Know for sure that, Bye Bye Man would easily make that 5 to 10 Million back after Its Theatrical release from Blu ray/Dvd/streaming sales, from a TV station like FX/HBO or others buying the rights...
So all the studio would care about is coveingr the 7.4 M dollar budget....as Long as Bye Bye Man made 20 Million in Theaters, The Studios Broke even/Made money...

WB will only care about KONG doubling its budget it theaters...
