what a new, fresh concept!

- tons and tons and tons and tons of CGI "sets" and settings
- tons and tons and tons of CGI actions
- whole world or universe needs saved (yet again)
- even more tons of CGI things that are there but do nothing for the plot
- some human actors do stuff
- sweet dreams song used yet again (I just counted 43 uses in IMDB list)

Oh well. SOMEONE out there keeps buying tickets to these faceless, unmemorable CGI fests. We'll never get enough of floating rock paths, and crazy looking backdrops.

What was the plot? Oh yeah, something about a kid and the light and dark and the world and universe and who cares it all looks the same as the last one of these and I will go ahead and tell you they win out in the end so save your money for the next empty CGI story.

Computers are ruining everything. And I fix them for a living. (IE first hand knowledge)

There's no excuse for not doing space scenes on location!

hahahahaha nice! :D

You forgot:

- It's "pre-sold", millions of people read the book as kids and are more likely to see a story they remember fondly than something new.
- It can be made into a franchise, the book has a bunch of sequels.

The sad thing is, even though I recognize the cynicism behind greenlighting this project, I'm still kind of interested in seeing it...

reply

didn't know it was a book. makes a little more sense now. will do great with THAT behind it.... and the tons of CGI everyone else never seems to grow tired of. :)

reply

It's a kid's book. A very good one, one that throws in physics into the mix of fantasy and adventure and a kid finding her courage,

I remember it very fondly, but I don't know that I could recommend it to an adult.

didn't know it was a book

And yet your ignorance didn't stop you from creating this thread.

This story has been considered for a film for MANY years, but was only thought to be doable today. 1990s CGI would have screwed this up royally, but it's clear that some justice can be done to the story with today's technology.

But don't let that stop you from your luddite viewpoints.

Yes. Please show me your TIME MACHINE that I might go BACK in time, yet still know it is a book and retract my thoughts about it. Thank you.

It is CGI FEST movie, which means it will do great with the idiot masses that keep funding "shiny/pretty" over great stories. Book or not, it's that same old thing.

reply

Oh for chrissakes, the presence if CGI doesn't automatically mean a film is bad or has a weak story! Okay, it dies happen a lot, but correlation is not causation.

If you had actually stopped to think for a moment before posting, you might have realized that the fact that it's based on a book that has been popular for decades raises the possibility that the story might actually be okay. Because award-winning, enduringly popular book.

READ THE THREAD!

I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS A FREAKING BOOK!!!
Do YOU have a time machine I can borrow?

Still looked like the same old crap to me: over the top CGI sets, over the top CGI action....whatever

reply

You totally missed my point, which is hardly surprising.
