I loved the soundtrack and the fact that the director does not make the characters look older as the film progresses ... they look exactly the same as at the beginning, meaning that people actually do not change as time goes by (at least this is what I think, too). I also found the film very well shot and loved the images of rural France.
I found it hard to warm up to the characters - whereas in "The father of my children" I totally empatised with all of them. They seemed a bit too self absorbed and needy...
I think my favourite thing about this film is the way they captured the essence of youthful love. Being young and in love is full of drama and passion, and at sometimes I couldn't help but laugh bc some of the dialogue, i swear, was straight out my past. for instance, when he threatened to break up with her if she cut her hair and she said if you leave me i'll kill you and then kill myself. which sounds crazy, but i know similar words have come out of my mouth. and then there was another instance when he said that she couldn't be everything and she said that she couldn't survive without him and he was just like, you saying stuff like that makes me want to leave you. -sigh- it's just reminiscent of past relationships. and he was so very harsh in saying that, and i've heard similar things, but now i've grown wiser...
i was just very empathetic to both characters, having gone through similar experiences. I was very surprised at the lack of good reviews, and posts on this thread. i feel it's underrated, especially considering other movies, the one i can think of is called like crazy. which isn't exactly relevant to this movie, but i mean people rave about that movie but imo goodbye young love is much better and far more realistic. i think people also said this movie was boring and slow, but it reflects life, life can be mundane at times...

I liked this as well.
