The Last Witch Hunter Thoughts

Personally I thought the film was pretty enjoyable. I knew it was a Vin Diesel film going in and his films never take themselves over seriously and I rather like that. Diesel could stand to have a better vocal range-sometimes I cannot understand what he's saying-he is pretty much the same person in every film, but then again so was Rex Harrison. Looking forward to his new XXX film. I still wish he'd done the sequel to the first I didn't even bother with the sequel when I saw he wasn't attached.

It was good to see Rose Leslie again. I thoroughly enjoyed her part in GOT & was saddened when they killed her off in that series. She is the type who looks a lot prettier without makeup & I thought her character was a good addition.

I've been a big fan of Elijah Wood for a long time. It was nice to see him in a film that was sort of normal. He chose a few "odd" projects since his LOTR days. Still it surprised me that his character was actually a bad guy. I guess I'm so used to him being the hero of the film.

Michael Caine was the icing on the cake. I cannot think of a film I've seen of his that I did not enjoy his part. He didn't have a large part of course, but his contribution was every bit enjoyable as other films.

Finally I did think that the witch queen could have been less "Meg Mucklebones" (Legend) and more "Queen Gedren" (Red Sonja). Why make the queen of the witches look like she just crawled out of the swamp? And if I had been alive for 800+ years hunting witches I would like to think I would have a better arsenal than a sword and guns to fight with. The film makers should have given Vin Diesel weapons along the lines of Van Helsing. That automatic crossbow is still one of my favorite sci-fi weapons of all time.

All in all I say 8/10.

You should add a spoiler mark for the Game Of Thrones spoiler, that doesn't happen until season 4 and ALOT of people watch the series on DVD and Blu Ray and not when it's aired on TV

That's because it didn't make any sense and was just terrible writing on the screen-writers part so of course it's gonna surprise you, hate forced twists like that, a good twist should always show indications of not being right from the gate just small subtle things so that when you rewatch it it makes sense, this twist is just out of the blue and stupid as sh!t.

"My parents were witches, unfortunatly I wasn't born with any of their powers" gah!

Also I'm usually a Elijah Wood fan myself but this is hands down the worst movie he has done, and Vin Diesel, and Michael Caine.

I'm gonna refuse you an offer you can't make

Spoilers obviously.

The little priest was absolutely fishy from the beginning. He was way to eager to trash away his life for some witch hunter. Why? Because he was saved by him?

Way to determined to "serve" him than, the bible, the church or anything. And not to trash on the actor, but he was a wimp for the job. With truly hard boiled witches he wouldn't survive a week.

I wouldn't say I could see the "twist", but running around with a white turtleneck instead of a priest dress something was way off. He even had fricken gun in his trousers and was way to eager to kill.

Michael Caine would have been a towering badass in his youth.

The whole movie had a derivative feel to it. But the twist wasn't so out of the blue, and I watched it with friends who usually don't watch "twisty" movies.

They all said the priest was way off from the beginning, but we suspected that he might wanted something else.

Not quite...
I'd say he was a very interesting and engaging character right up to that twist reveal... then from THAT point onward, they pissed all over everything they'd just set-up.

I think it would have worked far better if they'd continued with Kaulder as the heroic hero and Wood as the bad-ass rebel priest who goes round kicking suspects in the nuts!

I enjoyed it also. I don't get the "worst movie of 2015" stuff. Was it great? No, but it was worth watching and kept me entertained throughout. I also agree with you about the queen of witches. I really didn't care for her look, she could have been done so much better. I really think they missed the mark there. Glad I didn't listen to some of the terrible reviews and not bother to watch it.

Thanks for the reply Tbone. Glad someone besides me liked it. People just like to hate on movies I guess. I saw one poster complaining that this was a bad film because it had the same writers as Priest and Dracula Untold, two movies I thoroughly enjoyed greatly. Some even went so far as to criticize Rose Leslie's looks calling her "big chinned" and "no talent". Personally I think she's gorgeous and I loved her both in this and GOT. It's always good to form our own opinions and not let negative naysayers sway us away from great entertainment.

I liked this movie, too. Vin Diesel can read me the phone book, so I am not as bothered by his one-note gravel-ly voice as some others, and I am never disappointed to see or hear Michael Caine. I also liked the mythology, modern witch society, the Highlander-looking flashbacks, and the great production / sets with green throughout the movie. It was weird seeing such a force of Evil surrounded by so much beautiful natural greenery. I want to see a sequel!

I have major issues with this movie. The premise is really cool, but the execution was not very well done. The imagination and writing were lacking. There was no mythology or legacy. It felt like they just created this whole order yesterday.

The prison where they put witches is called....The Witch Prison. The council that judges witches it called..The Witch Counsel. The witch that control everything..the Witch Queen. So unoriginal. No one has come up with a name for any of these things in 600 years?

Vin's character did not feel that old in the least. He felt like he was Dominic Toretto's age. That is to say Vin's age.

This could have been such a good movie in better hands.

This movie basically rehashed a lot of cliché formulas from a dozen other movies. When Elijah Wood became the new assistant I thought "and this is the young naïf who will turn out to be an evil double agent mole" because a movie this unoriginal needs to have such a character in it somewhere.
