Questions about the film (Spoiler alert)

*. So was Vin Diesel's character supposed to be having flings/affairs with many many different air hostesses/stewardesses?
If so, were we supposed to think that he's trying to deal with the pain of being separated from his wife and daughter by having meaningless sexual dalliances, or are we to get the sense that the ONLY thing he's enjoying about his "immortality" is the ability to sleep with countless women? (The dialogue between him and Michael Caine made it difficult for me to arrive at a proper conclusion).

*. Are Vin's character and Rose's character supposed to become a couple/lovers?

*. What was the deal with the witch who ran the fashion shows? Had she always been able to maintain a youhtful exterior, or was it only after she stole that stuff for Belial in the very recent past? That was confusing.

1. yes, he was having casual s3x w/many different flight attendants. dunno the reason. i thought it was b/c of him not wanting to (or being unable to) love/settle down/trust anyone after losing his wife & child.

2. yes. another poster said a scene of them kissing was shown in an early preview version of the movie, but it was cut out of the final, theatrical version.

3. don't know. didn't understand this part myself.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and your information. :)

1. I guess one way to look at it is that he realized he could never settle down with another woman again, since they would eventually die while he lives on, and so he figured he would just settle for casual sex......although that definitely made him much less sympathetic in my eyes, as it diminishes the tragedy of his situation ("Hey, at least I can keep having sex with countless women over the centuries!")

2. Wow. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since Hollywood loves to make lovers out of everyone!!

3. Glad I wasn't the only one who had trouble understanding that scene, my friend. hehe.

Are you a smurfs fan?

1) It's up to the viewer to decide how to take it. I think he had the flings mostly to satisfy his sexual needs, and maybe to stave off loneliness. Just because a widower has sex with other women after his spouse's death doesn't mean he never cared for her or that the death didn't affect him.

2) With what is shown in the movie itself (and ignoring the cut scenes), it seems they are just friends/partners.

3) The implication, to me, is that she had previously been able to maintain a youthful look. If you notice, the other women in the fashion show had similar appearances (beautiful to the eye, but hideous to the mirror). Also, I think if her appearance was different, Kaulder would've pointed it out since he was already acquainted with her from the past. I think what Belial provided for her was the stuff that put Kaulder into the dream state, if I'm not mistaken.

Weird. Due to the big age difference between the two, I thought of Kaulder and Chloe as more of a father/daughter type relationship - since the man lost his daughter too.

I know EXACTLY what you mean, Ricky, and I feel the same way. Trying to make Kaulder and Chloe a couple is quite creepy. Now, do I still prefer that to him picking up countless young air hostesses and having one night stands with them? Yes of course, but still - in and of itself - trying to make lovers out of what should be a surrogate father/daughter type relationship is unnecessary.

Having seen the film, that aspect wasn't even made a big deal of at all--it's just briefly alluded to, but that's it.

Thanks for taking the time to tackle my questions, super-staff. Really appreciate it. :)

1.) I agree with you that just because a widower has sex with other women after his spouse's death doesn't mean he's not grieving, but I just hated the way this movie tried to make him seem almost COOL for having sex with all those women, one after another. As if the creators wanted the male members of the audience at least to go: "Yeah, you're the man!!" It seemed really out of character for him, after what we see of him in the opening scene. True, all the intervening centuries will definitely change a person enormously, but the sleeping-with-countless-young-women thing seemed more in line with the Vin Diesel persona than the Kaulder persona (and I'm not referring to Vin Diesel personally; just the type of character one would expect him to play in any, generic modern film).

2.) I guess I should breathe a sigh of relief that at LEAST they took out the kissing scene and made them seem like "just friends/partners". Although, if it were a choice between sleeping with countless women versus falling in love with this one girl, I would definitely have chosen the latter I think. The lesser of two 'evils', if I may use the word.

3.) Your explanation makes PERFECT SENSE - thank you so much!! I think you're spot on.
