Not a great movie, but what a universe!

Now... I can't defend much of the plot. The characters. It was like Fifth Element, just unnecessarily convoluted. There was little character development, because, where would they have fitted that? They wanted to explain the world.

However I do think that once this movie established the universe of Jupiter Ascending, they could have told much more interesting stories. It's a world waiting to be filled with all sorts of slightly campy and fun space opera stories. It's a shame the movie bombed and that isn't going to happen.

I could also imagine this being a 10 part series on HBO or Netflix. Then they would have had the time to develop the characters, develop the world, get us to care about these people.

It's too bad they had to turn it into a movie.

A series would be much better to tell stories in that universe, I agree.

But the extremely high production values would take a massive hit. Caine would probably be shooting at CG robots (easy to do) instead of CG reptilians (hard). Any spaceship battles would take place in the vastness of space rather than around Earth's buildings. And Caine's flying boots would not be almost touching the ground, they would just show him awkwardly flying around while the actor is on a wire.

But it's too late for that. Even if someone was crazy enough to tell them go and do it, they no longer can, because they are already making Sense8, a series that takes them 6 months to shoot and 3 months to edit. Thankfully it's awesome though 😁

The Wachowskis created a wonderful universal. The problem is the story is old and dated. The trend now is strong female lead characters, movies like The Hunger Games, Divergent Series, Twightlight Saga and Star Wars:TFA. Unfortunately, the character Jupiter was dull and weak and had to be rescued many times in the movie.
This is the main downfall of JA. One rescue is enough, but multiple rescues is lame.

One of the biggest letdowns of 2015, this movie could have been something great.
