February 6: It's the 1 near anniversary
And I think I'm going to rewatch it 😛
Anyone else?
Yes, rewatching it again. This was the most creative and original sci-fi movie I can remember watching last year.
shareHappy anniversary, Jupiter Ascending! It's been an awesome year celebrating and defending an awesome movie :).

Wow, one year. The critics should have been fair to JA.
shareAt least it has been more fairly received on home video.
Blu-ray.com: negative.
"Maybe next time, says the guy who uttered "maybe next time" after watching Cloud Atlas. I've been waiting for the Wachowskis to fulfill their potential since the first Matrix blew my little then-high school mind and since its sequels left me cold. Maybe next time."
thedigitalbits.com: positive.
"Love it or hate it, your own mileage will certainly vary. For my own part, I passed on Jupiter Ascending in theaters, went into the Blu-ray with zero expectations, and ended up pleasantly surprised. The film is certainly ridiculous and its story is a bit of a mess. But for all of its 127-minute run time, the film kept me entertained with plenty of sci-fi references and eye candy."
highdefdigest.com: positive.
"Yes, 'Jupiter Ascending' has a thin plot, banal dialogue, and broad characterizations, but there is still a certain level of fun to be had here and the movie's tone (usually) doesn't take itself too seriously. Outside of its storytelling shortcomings, the flick still features some dazzling set pieces and imaginative visuals. Though the Wachowskis continue to have major issues when it comes to scripting, they have at the very least dared to bring something original and ambitious to the screen."
dvdtalk.com: positive.
"Thankfully, with the presence of the somewhat comedic atmosphere and Kunis' presence, the tone of Jupiter Ascending isn't nearly as heavy or pretentious as some previous Wachowski creations, with the philosophy kept to a minimum, focusing mainly on the meaning of existence (since Jupiter has some identity issues to deal with and there's a subplot straight out of The Matrix about mankind's purpose.) This is really a slam-bang space-set action picture full of out-there sci-fi (including cross-species splicing and genetic reincarnation) but it's nothing fans of the genre haven't dealt with before, and the results, though a touch disappointing considering the greatness the Wachowskis once achieved, are well worth it."
avsforums.com: negative.
"A monumental misfire of epic proportions, you’ve likely never seen anything like it before, but it sure as hell looks and sounds amazing."
hometheaterforums.com: negative.
"Jupiter Ascending works sporadically on a sequence by sequence basis, but it is saddled with a frustratingly passive protagonist, annoyingly cartoonish antagonists, and too many big ideas than it has the time or inclination to contend. The character of Jupiter Jones does little beyond getting stuck in a cycle of being trapped and rescued repeatedly by Caine Wise. There is nothing particularly wrong with Kunis' performance, it really just boils down to a tepidly conceived character."
dvdverdict.com: positive.
"Jupiter Ascending certainly isn't for everyone, but those who can gets on its wavelength have a good time waiting for them. Here's hoping The Wachowskis keep getting to explore the grand goofy ideas in their heads for many years to come."
examiner.com: negative.
"This basically boils down to a film that’s dead on the screen, one that has no personality and certainly no reason for us to be emotionally invested in what’s happening. In fact, Kunis really seems to be the only one who’s even remotely trying here, while Channing Tatum (ironically chosen because the Wachowskis thought he had charisma) and Eddie Redmayne (who can look forward to following up his recent Oscar win with a Razzie nomination/possible win) appear to be lifeless."
I included reviews only from websites that are well known (at least to me).
If there was a rottentomatoes.com for Blu-ray I'm sure the rating would be much closer to ~50-60% than to ~25%. And that's a score I would be ok with.
They were more than fair.
