OT: Wachowskis' 2nd season of Sense8 begins some preliminary shooting

As of the latest tweets by some of the actors the first three scripts (of the twelve?) have been delivered to them and while cinematographer John Toll has recently gone on record that the main shoot is being discussed to begin on March 2016, it looks like the filmmakers do not want to lose the opportunity to shoot some authentic Christmas footage.

Ten days ago Aml Ameen (Capheus) tweeted they would be shooting the first footage of Season 2 in ten days (which would make it today, Sunday, or perhaps he miscalculated and meant on tomorrow, Monday). Other actors who have posted online about their involvement in the shoot are Brian J. Smith (Will), Doona Bae (Sun), Max Riemelt (Wolfgang), Tina Desai (Kala) and Jamie Clayton (Nomi). I would expect every single one of the 8 to be present but we don't know for sure.

The shoot will take place in Berlin so it might be Wolfgang focused. Smith posted a picture of Berlin's Unter den Linden decorated with Christmas illumination (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unter_den_Linden) at some point but that could be him doing some sightseeing.

Meanwhile Ameen has posted that he is training with a professional boxing couch for the second season and another tweet where he wrote he needs to learn many new skills in which he included emojis of swimming, riding a horse and a motorbike. Smith wrote about doing some undefined type of training as well.

Hopefully we will get our first pictures and reports of the second season within the next days.

Exciting! Tuppence just had her bleached to play Riley again, so they're really gearing up. I'm impressed by how quickly they got things sorted for series two - do you know if they had more scripts ready to go, or if the writing only took place after they got the greenlight for the series to continue?

Writing literally began when the announcement of the new season was made - on 08/08/2015.

@HausOfMIMB We only got script/prod order 8/8; and once scripts are done you still have 2-3 months prep prior to shooting.

There is a difference to how they are writing scripts this time around. For Season 1 the Wachowskis and JMS were taking turns writing the scripts, meaning the first 3 scripts were written by the Wachowskis, the next 3 by JMS and so on. This is because each party was working from remote locations (eg the Wachowskis were busy with Cloud Atlas and Jupiter Ascending). When a batch was completed by one party it was given to the other for rewrites and that's why every episode credits all three of them as writers, but each of the scripts first originated as the product of either the Wachowskis or JMS.

The difference is that for Season 2 they have an office and I guess less responsibilities to be at other places so they are writing every script together. That's how the Wachowskis wrote Cloud Atlas with Tom Tykwer or even how the two siblings have been writing all their scripts through the years. Season 1 of Sense8 was the anomaly rather than the norm!

On a somewhat related point, JMS has also signed as the showrunner and writer of all 10 episodes of Red Mars which sounds exciting. It begins production this summer so at some point before that JMS will be busy writing it which might or might not mean less time available to work on post for Sense8 but since there are three of them I'm sure everything will be fine. http://variety.com/2015/tv/news/red-mars-spike-series-order-1201656112/

Since they haven't started shooting yet it appears they are not in a hurry and they are probably targeting a specific event: the celebration of New Year's Eve.

In what will likely be the last piece of news this thread will receive, filming looks like it must have wrapped on the 4th of January as at least 3 actors have tweeted they have left Berlin.

But team Cloud Atlas was going strong in Berlin for while it lasted!

Looks like we were lucky enough for someone to notice them filming and shoot a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lst5Nvf1FwA

In it Lana Wachowski can be seen directing Desai (Kala) and Riemelt (Wolfgang) in Berlin's Museum Island.

This weekend the actors of Will and Riley are shooting in Chicago. Small shoot, for just 2 days probably because the scripts call for an ice skating rink scene and they can't afford to wait for the beginning of the main unit a few months later.

Jamie Clayton has indicated she will shoot something towards the end of February. She also said she has read up to the 6th script, so we can probably conclude that half of the season has been written.

Big update:

5 of the 8 Sensates (well, their actors anyway) have shared on their social media they left for Berlin today (or are about to leave) for what will be the beginning of the main unit for Season 2. Riemelt is from Berlin anyway, so make that 6. Since the number is super high, it's very possible all 8 of them will be there then.

In other news it was recently revealed that in the summer they will do 2 weeks of filming in Amsterdam - a new city to be featured in the series. https://www.amsterdam.nl/ondernemen/nieuws-ondernemers/netflix-amsterdam/

Filming should wrap around October, but some cast members might finish 1-2 months earlier.
