It's "The Fifth Elmelent" for our generation!!!!

If you seen both, you'll knopw what I mean. They have a similar vibe, but the Wakowski Brothers kind took it to a different level.

Well, not as funny.

When Zorg closed the case, laugh and cry:"They are not here!" I was still laughing after movie at a train station, people all looking me weird.

please tell me you are pulling my leg? Jupiter Ascending has a 25% approval rating on RT....

The Fifth Element is one of the most loved SCI FI comedy in the last 30 or so years

Past generations are much loved but today's generation has a 25% approval rating so it's a wash.

When The Fifth Element first came out it was reviled. Critics trashed it way worse than JA. Over the next few years it gained a cult following, only then did it become beloved.

How sad, decline is ever so sickening.

reply

Yeah, in that they both were sci-fi movies that didn't quite work.

The Fifth Element is The Fifth Element of this generation.

I know, right? I'm sitting here thinking The Fifth Element came out when I was in middle school. It's of my generation. I hope the original poster is in his/her teens or early 20s.

Multipass.

reply

Damn right, Jupiter Ascending didn't even have some cutie going "multipass" or something similar.

The Fifth Element had amazing action sequences, wonderful performances, and an engaging story that kept you interested. Jupiter Ascending had none of those things.

reply

It did have Channing randomly shirtless for half the movie though....because that wasn't a transparent attempt.

reply

You see I would say Jupiter Ascending had all of those things in spades. I found some of the action sequences (particularly the chase through Chicago) spectacular. I found some of the performances incredibly entertaining (Redmayne was lots of fun to watch). I found the story fascinating and engaging.

I agree, it however didn't have the quirky tone that The Fifth Element had. It did play with itself a little with moments like "I love dogs, I've always loved dogs" but that is tonally as close as it gets to The Fifth Element. Essentially its quirkiest moments where less quirky then Fifth Elements least quirky moments.

I can see the resemblance with the over the top villain though who is clearly mentally unstable who tries to justify his actions, though clearly doesn't believe himself or has doubts.

It's The Fifth Element without all the things that made The Fifth Element good.

Not as funny, not as exciting, not as stylish, not as engaging and not as well performed as The Fifth Element.

Yeah, Jupiter Ascending is on a different level - the subbasement.
