Jupiter Jones' Dad's family?

Thought I missed something in the intro...

Maximilian Jones was the son of a British diplomat and even if there was some level of estrangement over something, there's a grandchild involved, so why didn't Aleksa ask for help from her in-laws, especially as she's retained his surname? It's stated she pushed away everyone near her, but then fled halfway across the world, with a sister, over a random robbery gone wrong?!? Abandoning an academic career to clean Chicagoan's toilets as an illegal alien, did she flee for some unmentioned political reasons - something dropped from the script?

On your first note, perhaps Jone's family were no longer alive, who knows and who cares? On your second note, yeah, that is indeed a bit far fetched without further info, so perhaps something was cut.

But really the way the film opens you just kind of have to roll with the situation it presents, as it doesn't want to spend too much time on it.. it just kind of wants it to be over so that the main story can begin. It doesn't really bother me, because it's unimportant detail. They could have cut the entire flashback bar a couple of shots of the robbery and it wouldn't change the story. To me it's fine as is.

Then why go and mention her dad's pedigree, instead of some random British professor? Even if his parents were dead and lacked siblings, he must've had a will. Ignoring the latter, she'd automatically be a British subject, through her dad - Jus sanguinis. Instead of being legal, but poor in the UK, with an opportunity for a decent education*, she's illegal in the US.

*granted her mom might not be able to stay in the UK legally...

I agree with you, the flashbacks were unnecessary.

Because bad writing.

I agree, she could gotten help from the British Embassy, since her unborn child (Jupiter) would be a British citizen like her father.

What I've been wondering about is if her father could have been an Abraxus and that's part of the reason why she is the owner of Earth?

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.
