A mini series would have been better
Hoover was such a complex man, that a two hour plus movie does not do him justice. It would have been better if his life history was portrayed in a mini series. So many issues are overlooked or touched on briefly. Hoover denied the existence of the Mafia despite clear evidence. Hoover's actions after Kennedy's assassination was more about protecting the FBI than it was about solving the crime. He knew a lot more about Lee Harvey Oswald than he let on to the Warren Commission. Last but not least, the FBI was not just bugging Martin Luther King's hotel trysts, it sought to destroy the civil rights movement. Clint Eastwood's film uses a very broad brush to tell the story, leaving some very big gaps.
