Hoover must have had a file on Clint Eastwood

That's the only explanation for how sanitized this movie is. The film seemed to tip-toe around every issue.

Hoover wore women's clothing BUT DON'T WORRY he only did it one time, and only in a state of extreme grief and loss and only because he missed his mother.

Hoover was gay BUT DON"T WORRY, he never consummated it! in fact he only kissed his male friend on the forehead and only one time at the end of his life.

Hoover exaggerated his accomplishments, but he actually BELIEVED his own lies, so it wasn't like he was INTENTIONALLY lying. Besides he did it for the good of the Bureau.

And man oh man, did Hoover ever draw the line at Nixon's insane suggestions to wiretap reporters. Hoover actually had some CHARACTER!

you know Clint, I think he must have had a file on you. You may have brought in yet another movie on time, and under budget. congrats. Next time go over budget a bit and make a better movie. Spend more on makeup effects next time too.

Santized? Seriously? What were you expecting, something produced by the publishers of the National Enquirer?

Bottom line is that Hoover was a complex man who transformed the FBI into what it is today. Whether or not you or anyone considers this good or bad is open to discussion, but regardless, this is a serious accomplishment and should be a central part of the story. Any story on Hoover has to have that as it's central focus. Let's look at your other assertions:

Hoover wearing women's clothing - only proof here is photos supposedly held by the mafia. Still, did we need an extra 20-30 minutes of Hoover cross-dressing just to satisfy the rumors? Was it central to the story? And the scene you mention has NOTHING to do with any supposed cross-dressing tendencies, and everything to do with the relationship with his mother. Obviously, that went over your head.

Hoover was gay - nothing substantiated or proved, but mainly assumed from what we knew of him and Tolson in the public record. Given that, what were you expecting? A full on romance complete with explicit sex scenes? How would that in any way have made the movie better? I thought it was handled fine and anything else would only satisfy those who need everything spelled out for them.

Hoover exaggerated his accomplishments - you need to rewatch the film. This was not excused in any way, as Tolson himself threw this back in Hoover's face. If you actually paid attention, you'd see a portrayal of a man caught up in his own lies to the point of being delusional. The movie wasn't excusing this at all. If anything, it's scary to think that someone this insecure and petty was in a position of power.

Hoover and Nixon - again, rewatch the movie. Nobody watching their scenes together would think Hoover had character or that the film was trying to show that. Again, we're seeing a delusional man, caught up in his own paranoia that he sees no hypocrisy in judging someone who acts just like him. It's completely part of Hoover's character to unfairly judge someone else by different standards than he judges himself. The filmmakers weren't making their own judgement here, and for you to suggest that is just another example of how this went over your head.

You might want to stick with comedies, pal.
