"But even Sean Penn learned to act" - Yeah, barely. Now every single performance he gives is a big fat load of Oscar Bait; sometimes acceptable (okay, I'll give him "Milk," but Mickey Rourke should've won), sometimes not at all ("I Am Sam," "Mystic River" where he somehow beat Bill Murray for the Oscar by yelling IS THAT MY DAUGHTER IN THEEEERE!!!!!!!!!!!...unless I'm supposed to blame Eastwood for his whole "don't make any changes to the script and don't do more than one take because I've got to get this *beep* movie shot ahead of time and under budget so I can get back to the golf course!" ethos). That's what I mean by "Sean Pennville" - every performance has to be Big Classy Oscar Material Hey Look At Me. It doesn't help that I recently watched Penn give the worst performance of all time by an actor of any significant note (topping even Malcolm McDowell in the 2007 "Halloween") in "Casualties Of War," where he overacted so hideously that he managed to make Crispin Glover in "River's Edge" look like someone in a coma.
Sorry, but I'm one of those poor belated souls who can only tolerate Sean Penn in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High."
