Why was Leonardo snubbed in the Oscars?

Why wasn't Leonardo DiCaprio nominated for Best Actor in his portrayal of J. Edgar Hoover. Next to The Departed it is one of his best roles and I am shocked that once again he doesn't win an Oscar for which he truly deserves.

you know when i 1st saw the trailers my mind had a difficult time letting go of leo's face inside makeup but as i've had the chance to see this a few times, he really does disappear into hoover for portions of the movie. glad to see leo is still challenging himself this deep into his career.

Leo should have 2 oscars at least by now (gilbert grape & aviator)

im not mad that Tommy Lee Jones won for the Fugitive as he was excellent in that as well.

but Dicaprio's best work, I say, is The Aviator.

Aviator was great, but I myself would go with The Departed as his best work. He is a great actor and really took me by surprise because I originally thought he would be a pretty boy actor.

Good for you. Me, there wasn't one single moment in this film when I felt I was seeing J.Edgar Hoover instead of DiCaprio. Bad, bad casting. The man-child was out of his league.

reply

Because he was miscast in the role, and it didn't help that the movie he was in wasn't good either.

reply

He may have done his damnedest, but the movie just isn't any good.

I'm here just trying to make sense of why anyone made it.

He was excellent in this, and I think the movie itself is much better than some give it credit for. DiCaprio will get his Oscar eventually, no worries.

I'm late to this party, but just saw this movie, so.... Anyway, an actor isn't snubbed if he doesn't get nominated for a bad performance in a bad movie, which is what we got with J. Edgar. It is an overwrought heavily fictionalized account of Hoover's life, rife with material long ago debunked by actual historians. The acting is atrocious, Leo included, and I am far from a Leo hater; in fact I think he's occasionally great. Not here, though.

Because Leo doesn't have to be nominated for every single movie he makes?
