Ban aging make up
This film would have been so much better if the elderly characters were played by elderly actors. Only DiCaprio almost pulls it off. Never has worked, never will.

shareHe didn't get the movement or changes in speech down. Same way women who have never been pregnant do a bad "pregnant suit" act.
shareThey always move just too fast, don't they? The makeup departement works so hard (I bet) on the makeup, but the actors somehow never get that older people just move differently, usually slower. Tolson honestly looked like he had a skin desease. And movie-pregnant actresses never have to lean a bit back against the weight of the belly, so they just stand and move like a non-pregnant person. Very strange, shouldn't all this essential?
shareThis. I think the problem often isn't the makeup, it's that the actors move nothing like an actual older person.
shareMaybe they don't include the actual weight of a baby. Plus all the time you have to carry that baby, It's constant for most of the nine months. But i see a lot of guys who look like they are carrying around a baby = fat gut. Not sure they look like preggie women. More like fat guys who are proud of their fatness.
And I'm not sure if there is a one-size-fits-all for portraying an older person. Some people might have lines on their face but be breezy in their manner. Think of Jessica Tandy. She was an old gal who had all sorts of spark to her. Very feminine and attractive even into her 70s. Not foxy attractive, but a very pleasant looking woman to be with.
I'm an old person and I move exactly the same as I did when I was twenty. Normal posture, normal walk, normal flexibility, normal speed, etc. I just have thinning hair and wrinkles.
shareThe worst was when Tolson had his stroke. The make-up job was UNBELIEVABLY bad! He didn't looked elderly, he looked like he'd suffered severe burns.
shareThis film did have bad old age make up.
Its that man again!!
Tilda Swinton pulled it off in Suspiria.
shareFunny, I felt the same after watching the movie.
shareF. Murray Abraham in "Amadeus" was pretty damned convincing. I'd never heard of him before I saw the movie, and I thought he was an actual old actor.
