Disappointing (spoilers)

The personalities of the characters were interesting, but that ending was so flawed, the flash forward just does not work here it becomes the cliche. Del Toro was the best thing about this film, but I kept waiting for the movie to do something and it just never delivers. I rated it a five, middle of the road. Salma Hayek was like the female godfather who is always beautiful and I liked her well enough, but something is missing. The movie just cowardly avoids emotional nerves to hit all the physical ones creating a void.

The ending was the most disappointing thing though. In the end Elena goes away for 30 years but the rapist Del Toro gets away Scott free, and a new cartel rises worse than the last and our threesome just recedes into mediocrity. Just an awful ending.

I also completely agree with this. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1615065/board/nest/212300388

I didn't like savages, when I saw the trailer, I was expecting a nonstop balls to the wall action thrill ride but that wasn't what I got

what I got instead was a horribly paced suck fest

I was disappointed, but still gave it a 7, barely, since I did enjoy the overall feel of the film, the edginess and the contrast between the liberalization of pot laws and the way the drug cartels still operate.

In the middle I think the menage a trois was somewhat hard to accept, but it did have a role in the plot development, so it was borderline.

What bothered me is how the setup of O getting kidnapped played out. Weren't these guys, especially Chon, concerned about letting her run around? Sure they put a tail on her, but it was no stretch to think the cartel guys could beat that. Didn't they see as Madrina did that O was their weak spot? And even in caring about her, loving her, what was the upside about leting her go shopping?

I know a brief attempt was made to humor her since they were talking her into going to Indonesia and all that, but it just did not work.

I wouldn't call this a plot hole so much since it was not implausible, but it sure didn't make these guys sound like the smart ones they would have had to be to be as successful as they were and otherwise capable.

It was... jarring.
