Maybe its just me, but my impression was that the rewind and second ending was the drugs kicking in. Imho they died and we just follow them fading out into oblivion
shareI actually enjoy that interpretation a lot but it doesn't fit to me. Based off the previous conversation with the Travolta character it seems that he did come bust Elena and take all the credit in reality. The first ending would have been better and even the second ending could have been alright if they didn't do the dumb rewind "no this is how it ends deal." Sooo for the sake of wanting to enjoy this film I will now subscribe to your theory that they die but the drugs make them think they lived happily ever after for a bit.
