What Went Wrong?

This was a weird movie. The director is obviously proven, great acting from Travolta, Del Toro and Hayek, some good action sequences, beautiful scenery in California and a unique crime story that all combine to be totally flat. I can't immediately say what was missing but I genuinely did not care about any of the characters and found this boring. What went wrong?

The three main characters with which the audience was supposed to empathize, fawn over and/or at least find some common ground, were all unlikeable douchebags. I could not have cared less what happened to them either; in fact I was rooting for the villains (who, by the way, were all infinitely more charismatic).

I think you hit the nail on the head. The villains should have been the focus of the movie really. The acting was much stronger from them too. The main 3 characters are all pieces of trash, and I didn't care what happened to any of them either. Also the acting from all 3 was ATROCIOUS and downright distracted from what was going on...

What was annoying most of all to me was this kind of hippie flower child thing that was undeserved for these characters as much as they want to be seen as uninterested in materialism. O was a materialist pig who only got it cause she was *beep* a nerd and a violent sociopath with issues. Once especially these characters are forced into a violent world they finally accept who they are. You can't be a non-violent person in that world you need to have a ruthlessness in you. What makes the ending terrible especially is they end it with them escaping to me it should've ended with them dead not in some island paradise they did not earn it and did not deserve it.

Yep. Not to mention that horrible rape of Here comes the sun.
