I can already tell this show is going to be chock full of references I'm not going to understand (it's sheer coincidence I even know about the song/movie reference regarding Ben the rat).

The ninja who Black Dynamite is sweating for information, and who later ends up helping them, has some letters written on his mask, like HIC something. Did that actually spell or sound out to something, or was it a reference? I honestly only thought about it in retrospect.

I know it's a dirty game, but it's the only one The Man left us to play.

And you get bonus points if you get that reference.

It was HNIC: Head Ninja In Charge.
He was hilarious.

I was wondering if they would keep that up after the pilot.
"Who that said the revolution wasn't going to be televised didn't know what the *beep* they were talking about."

Lot of them prolly goes over my head, but I did catch some of those mentioned here and also the "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" reference at the end.

Love that stuff :D

HNIC: it stood for Head Ninja In Charge but it typically stands for Head N*gga In Charge

The N could be changed to anything though, HBIC= Head B*tch In Charge for example

It's all old 70's references mostly...60's and 80's and 90's too.

The HNIC was a play on "Ninja"...but it was about the "N" word back in the 60's and 70's, which is why it was really funny.

Thanks! OK, so it's an expression. I didn't know if it was a line from a movie, if the acronym itself was the reference, etc.
