It should actually start at McClane's retirement party. It could have cameos from ppl from the previous films... AL Powell, Carmine Lorenzo from DH2, Samuel L. Jackson, even Holly and his kids.
And just for fun, throw a Murtaugh & Riggs cameo in there since he would know them from his time on the LA Police Force.
