Theatrical > Extended Cut...

You know, I think A Good Day to Die Hard gets way too much hate. Now, I don't have the most popular of opinions (I thought Die Hard 4 was the best since the original).

This was on FX last night and could not help switching to it after watching only a bit of the NBA Finals (and I am a huge sports fan).

This was the first movie to be solely written as a die hard movie, not adapted from anything else.
*I thought it had the best action seen in a long time
*The car chase scene was pure epic chaos (in a good way)
*It continued the tradition of him getting closer to his family
*One of the last scenes of John missing with Jack shouting "John! John!..dad!!" was moving, it was the first time I remember this happening in a die hard movie since John was saying his goodbyes to Al while bloody in the bathroom in the original film.
*Great soundtrack.
*The length was not a issue for me, if it was longer it would try to become more deep than it needed to be.
*There was no big bad guy, there was a clever person who knew exactly how to carry out his motives and nearly succeeded. This was a breath of fresh air for me.
*Though we may or may not get a Die Hard 6, the final shot with John and his kids reuniting on the tarmac is a fitting end to the series if this is indeed the end.
*And it had more die hard elements than most of the sequels: John being fish out of water, white tanktop/tee, John slowly losing clothes throughout film, a twist, bigger threat than previous movie, John losing something (his cell phone) that would have given him advantage, like his shoes in first or headache in third.
I could go on an on, but I liked it, it did not try to be something it was not, it tried new things, and it was ENTERTAINING.

While I am at it, my grades for all die hard movies:
*Die Hard 9/10
*Die Hard 2 6.5/10
*Die Hard 3 5.5/10
*Die Hard 4 8.5/10
Die Hard 5 8.3/10

So the chase is actually shortened in the extended cut. Good move, because in the version I saw, it was ridiculously long.🐭

No way, they sanitized Lucy from the bad ass she was into a calm little girl who waits for the boys to get home. I love Lucy in DH4 but they did her zero justice in the 5th film.

The scene where they talk on the phone is ridiculous. Why would you pick up the phone during a car chase to talk about how you can't talk???

And that ending..... TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!! The Die Hard movies end overlooking the final scene of destruction, not with a cheesy slow motion ending in the sunset.


Either way this movie is not on par, you must be a new fan to the series.

I haven't seen the theatrical but given it has MEW and the extended doesn't I said that yes the theatrical must be better.
