Gabrielle is from future!!!...that wud be the most poetic interpretation!!
I mean...think abt it. Wudnt it be possible for Gabrielle to come from future for her muse Gill? Maybe Gill did turn out to be a famous writer and had Gabrielle feel weak in her knees!!...i thought it wud make a the climax a perfect circle!...wat say?

I think the movie hints at that. Just before Gil sees her at the end the clock strikes midnight.

Gabrielle was not from the future. She was obviously an antique dealer during daytime, though she shared Gil's interest in the 1920s.

I missed your post and just posted about the same idea. She is mysterious, and definitely seems like she is specifically seeking Gil out.

Maybe Gabrielle is from the future where they are so advanced that they wouldn't be limited to accessing time travel only at midnight. I think your ending makes the movie way more satisfying. Oh, and maybe in the future water is no longer so available to people so you know, at the end she says that she doesn't mind getting wet because Paris in the rain is beautiful? Well, Paris a 100 years into the future is a wasteland desert. LOL
