This movie is pretentious as hell

Really now, pretentious, the people unlikeable? It's a wonder so many people from all over the world would like nothing better than to be able to live there.

I've found that in most cities one travels to, people in general are very likeable provided one approaches them with a likeable attitude.

The movie did go in for a lot of name-dropping, but that was the point of the story after all. Having Gil meet all these famous people from the 20s.

And I know it's intentional, but geez guy, dial it back a bit.

I disagree with you; I don't think the movie is pretentious, and I certainly don't think it's intentionally so. It is a movie about artists and about a man who is in love with old Paris, so I can see where it would come off as pretentious, but I think that Gil's yearning for truth and his searching for something deeper than what his life is at the start of the movie is, in many ways, an antithesis to pretension.

You know what's really pretentious? Using the word pretentious to sound sophisticated and then saying nothing to back it up. Now don't get me wrong, I can see why people wouldn't like the film, it's a very divisive film, and if you don't pick up on the themes can be a little boring, but it just really pisses me off when people use "pretentious" as a way to sound like they know what they're talking about, when that in of itself is pretentious.
