Thank heavens Gil realized SPOILERS

That marrying Inez would be a disaster. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, but couldn't understand what a regular guy like Gil would ever see in Inez? Yes, she was adorable with the cutest figure, but that only goes so far. From her personality, I cannot even imagine her putting on an act for any length of time to get Gil hooked. Even her admission of infidelity blamed Gil. Also, off topic really, how did she ever get the name Inez? It seemed odd to me.

I did absolutely love both of the French girls. Gil definitely did the right thing.

Gil seemed like a passive type of guy that could be talked into anything. He could argue with people, but ultimately just let them decide things for him. I mean, a group of people drive up in a car, invite him in, and he does it. Inez and her mom don't want to walk in the rain, so he goes with them (even though he enjoys walking in Paris when it's raining). With that said, his relationship with Inez probably consisted of her planning everything and him just following along, their engagement included. I think being in an alternate universe showed him what he was missing, and that's why he called it off. As far as the name Inez, I think it's a fairly common name. Maybe more so among rich, right-wing Republicans, but I can't be positive about that.

I think he was intially smitten by her beauty and she was smitten with his writing talent - so she probably put on airs and slowly morphed into the Inez we saw. To Gil she was the same Inez he knew from the begining, it wasn't until Gertrude Stein said something that he realized that Inez really wasn't that into him... just his money and status.

As physically beautiful as she is, her personally was disgusting, to me.

I think she was suppose to be.

reply

I agree. Her personality negated her physical attributes.

Ok for anger sex :)

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

It's actually pretty amazing writing and acting to be able to make you feel such disgust for such a beautiful women!

She was also Regina George

McAdams is one of my favourite actresses. But I just adore her when she plays a b'tch - she does it so danged well! There's just something about her, she could be playing Satan himself, and I'd still find her adorable. She has an innate charm and I loved her as Regina George.

Inez was impossible! What a horror. Shushing Gil whenever he tried to speak and fawning all over that prat Paul, (played really well by Michael Sheen).

My god, Regina is almost a sweetheart compared to her!

Thats the one thing that's always bugged me about the movie is that Inez is too much of a bitch. It makes you wonder how the two of them ever fell in love in the first place. I suppose though that Gil probably used to be more different. Maybe he was more of a Hollywood type guy and Inez was attracted to him for it, and he slowly started morphing into the Gil we saw on screen. *Shrugs*.

I agree that in the film, Inez was much too bitchy and obnoxious and that weakened the plot. Given how Inez acted in this film, Gil in fact had been exceedingly slow in recognizing that he and Inez were incompatible. Who would go to Paris with her fiancée and then make all plans with people she had just met and tell the fiancée that he needn't come if he didn't want to? She even cheated on him but seemed to treat it as his fault, and said she was willing to agree not to talk about it?! I don't think I can stand any such woman for even one day, even if she looks like Rachel McAdams.

Inez reminded me a lot of Amanda Seyfried's Mexican fiancée in Letters to Juliet, who went to Italy with her but then spent most of the time meeting other people rather than with her. But at least that was a business trip and he indeed had serious things to attend to.

Gil was kind of a doormat, and like Adriana said, rather naive and lost.
