The music - is it based on anything that was actually released?

Self-explanatory - is the music in the film based on actual music by Sidebottom or anyone else?

There were certainly hints of Beefheart in there but it's more psychadelic and less dada-ist than the Captain.

Anyone with any info, it would be much appreciated.

The Fall probably?

Wikipedia says:
"Although drawing from Ronson's memoir, the story is set in contemporary America, and the Frank character combines elements of Sievy with Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart."

I thought when they showed Frank with a circular diagram chart of the new notation system he invented and making his musicians repeat a few notes over and over again were particularly Beefhart-ian.

There's a link to Beefheart, sure, but to me it's far more melodic than the Captain (who incidentally is one of my favourite musicians).

I hear hints of more psychadelic Pink Floyd, early Verve, maybe even a bit of Radiohead too.

Whatever it is I want to hear more of it.

I was wondering the same thing. However Stephan Rennicks is credited for writing the music. The entire 31 track soundtrack is on Spotify if you want to hear full versions of songs. http://open.spotify.com/album/2V8YdJxzDpW90QOHKr47HR
