Did they actually film any of this in Austin during SXSW?

Or did they just make Albuquerque seem like Austin? I don't see Austin in the filming locales, just Albuquerque and Dublin.

reply

This movie was filmed in New Mexico not Austin because of FREE TAXPAYER money to make the film. NEw Mexico coughed it up. So, that's where they went. I read that.

Now you have the power of internet smellovision? Unlikely I will take advice from you. Why even try to do what you are doing? Are you so delusional to think your word has power with me to stop my actions? Why would it? Who are you to me? What authority is some ding dong on a movie board to control my thoughts, speech, and behavior?

And, most people have indicated to me that they had no idea this funding goes on and are happy to know so they can e-mail their legislators or call them. Only a few celebrity worshipping sheeple have gotten ticked...like yourself...

I don't have a duty to call my legislators and then gag my speech and sit down and be done with it just because you are an idiot. Got it? Michael was the one who had to go on national television and boast that this movie was not merely entertainment but rather some educational nonsense about mental illness. That, to me, makes it fair game for THIS discussion.

New Mexico CUT funding to REAL LIFE mentally ill patients in New Mexico displacing 30,000 so I read, along with destroying the jobs of thousands of mental health care workers (who took to the streets in protest) in the SAME year New Mexico gave possibly millions to the makers of FRANK either in GRANTS from the taxpayer treasury or in treasury 0% interest loans so Michael, uneducated Michael, could "educate" the world about mental illness through bad lyrics, bad music and a paper machete bobble head? Pathetic and disgusting...

You do realize how the political process works right? Someone finds out about something and SPREADS the word... through online petitions, blogging, conversations with people, rallying, etc. There have been protests in New Mexico about the state cutting off funds to mental health. And movie industry rallies in California. Lots of folks in California ticked off that other states are stealing the movie business away from that state when it's the state where the industry began and has the infrastructure and expertise.

I find your statement to be very very very naive. Are you sucking your thumb right now? You sound really mad that the world is not presented to you just the way you want it. "Oh grow up..."--- Joan Rivers (9-4-2014 RIP)

Simply put.... The way other people spread the word about issues of social importance is really NOT within YOUR control. So relax. There are things in this world you will have to cope with as you are not in charge of...

Feel FREE to call me EVERY name under the sun. It makes no difference to me. Rolls right off...

None of it was Austin, and never in my entire life of living here have I ever heard anyone rave about a waffle house. We're all about breakfast tacos.

The SXSW scenes were filmed in Austin.

No, they weren't. There might have been a stock footage shot or two of Austin, but the cast were never in Austin. I've lived here for 35 years, I should know. They couldn't even come up with a local business name to drop, and used some New Mexico waffle house. Not to mention they made Austin look like it was in the middle of some run-down desert wasteland, instead of the bloated, condo-filled, mini metropolis it actually is.

Lived in Austin for thirty years myself and since you weren't involved in the production of the film, I am sorry I am not accepting your word. Not calling you a liar, just saying you don't really know. :-)

Don't know how it's not obvious to you, if you really live here (unless you've never looked outside before) but since you won't believe me:

Can you talk about shooting the SXSW scenes? I’m wondering if anyone’s been down there to SXSW for the music portion before doing the film.
ABRAHAMSON: No, actually, neither myself nor the designer had been there, or the DP, but we watched a lot, obviously, and we got a lot of footage and material, but we didn’t shoot it in Austin either. We shot in Albuquerque, but what was nice was when we went and showed the film at SXSW, we got lots of questions from people about what it had been like being in SXSW shooting SXSW, which was nice, but we recreated it. In a funny way, we really only show quite small parts of it, but it was brilliant to bring it there and the audience seemed to really like it. They responded to it and they didn’t mind that we were taking the piss out of the festival to some extent in a pretty gentle way.
FASSBENDER: I had been to the one just before. I had been to SXSW literally whenever it is. Is it October? I can’t remember. So I came straight off a movie onto Frank having just been there, so that was pretty cool. It’s an amazing festival.
