A Lot Darker Than I Thought.

Did anyone expect this film to turn as dark as it did?
I really enjoyed the film and the performances but I thought it was going to be funny with a lot of dark humour.

I'm just wondering what others thought of this.

Yes, in the end, the film became much darker than I'd expected, but for me that created a real link to the characters. They were surreal and yet fundamentally human. I could relate to both Frank's need to make music for its own sake and Jon's desire to succeed even though he had very little talent. I was completely engaged with both men. Amazing physical performance from Fassbender.

I think they sowed the seeds of darkness pretty early on, so you had to know that was all bristling under the surface, and would be confronted eventually, and I'm glad they did because I think it made the movie.

I'm not sure what expectations I had apart from that it would be humorous. Some of the black comedy comes at the expense of the characters who are, at times, utterly mad. The film balances the comedy with pathos and tenderness though, which affects the comedy. I guess a film was about mental illness would be dark.

A bird sings and the mountain's silence deepens.

Not what I expected from the trailers. Good film. Just far from what I was expecting.
