This is something aspiring musicians can take a lesson from


First, that 'making it' isn't everything, and if it's everything to you, maybe you should reconsider.

Second, that chances are very good you are not a genius. Probably you're a hack who has no business trying to be a rock star.

Exceptions occur, and of course you have to try to know, but if your talents are limited, accept it and be happy playing local gigs or just playing for yourself. Waaaay too many people think they are going to be rock stars.

Is all the musician carnage worth the cream that rises? I'm not sure myself, but I'm curious to hear from others.

It's also the first voice I've heard against promotional social networking which is constantly presented as a necessity for modern bands. It seems to be presented as a corruptive force on the band, sort of mirrored by the contradicting forces of Frank and the ginger crouton whose name I forget. Seems noteworthy that Frank, the most organically creative & inspirational factor of the fictional band is entirely oblivious to that world.
