Could anyone else tell who was beneath the mask? (Spoilers)

The moment Frank started speaking in German to the visiting family at the cabin, the first thing I thought of was Archie Hicox's strange Piz Palu German accent. After that point I just pictured Fassbender under the mask, and the more I watched it that way, the more it made sense. When it was revealed that it was actually Fassbender, it both blew my mind and left me completely unsurprised at the same time.

Honestly, I'm a little high right now and this whole sequence of events tripped me out. I was just wondering if anyone caught it.

And who did you think there was under the mask before this sudden revelation?

reply

Especially since Fassbenders name was IN the opening credits, correct me if I am wrong.

reply

I completely missed that. Now I look like a fool.

reply

Well, at least you had a big surprise, hadn't you???

reply

Watch it again. The first time around I get that Maggie Gyelenhal is the bad guy, the mean one. But watching it the second time gave me a better understanding, things to watch for and John totally comes off as the bad guy.

It is quite interesting

I guess if you look at life so black and white, John could be the bad guy, but the overall point was that no one was particularly bad...they were all just people.

Because if anything Jon caused the band to grow closer at the end...Had Frank never destroyed the head he wouldn't have presented himself as he actually is.

reply

I'd rather be you, not knowing who it was. I saw its trailer long ago, and it pasted a huge "and Fassbender" on Frank.

reply

I also don't recall seeing Fassbender's name in the opening credits...but then again I tend not to worry about credits until AFTER the movie...I don't want to spend the entire movie thinking of Magneto behind that head, and am very pleased to not have.
The german scene did it for me too, the moment I heard his voice I thought..."Erik Lensherr..."

I don't remember if the credits were at the beginning or at the end. But the movie's poster is this one:

Either you watch someething you know nothing about or you need a pair of glasses 😃.

Too bad Netflix doesn't use a promo critic reviewed movie cover...Fassbender isn't even listed in the Starring for Frank on Netflix.

The mystery of who was underneath the head wasn't unheard of obviously.

Most people who watched it on netflix were given a vague description and a picture of the head with the name FRANK on top. I watched this because I had no idea what it was about but the picture drew me in, only to find out I was watching a truly amazing film.

Well, I knew going in because of the trailer and the credits but mostly because I watched it because I'm a Fassbender fan... But I'm the type of person who watches these things to see if they really put Fassbender in the movie.

Clues for me that it was him, the American accent sounds like one Fassbender would do.
The shower scene, yes, I've watched enough of his movies...
The German accent sounds like him as well.

I've never seen him do that kind of awkward body movement and language though, so that was my point of doubt. I guess if you didn't know, the German accent makes sense. Not many actors out there who have German just rolling off the tongue like that.

The weird thing is the idea that people outside of Fassbender stans will just casually watch a movie with an unknown person in a head... I like this. Nice.

Clever people will recognize and tolerate nothing but cleverness.

I was about 10 mins in when a friend messaged me and I said I was watching a film called Frank and he said Michael Fassbender is good in it. I didn't have a clue and that annoyed me, my friend is a son of a bitch as he must've done it on purpose. Not as bad as having The Sixth Sense spoilt back in the day.
