Apparently this film was somewhat based on Daniel Johnson, which I find weird. I didn't see the connection.
To me I saw a lot of Buckethead and Jim Morrison in this movie in Frank. Did other people see those connections to Frank?
I think the Daniel Johnston connection would probably just be the concept of the "outsider" musician with social anxiety. He's probably the most popular outsider musician with the props received from Kurt Cobain. DJ's music is much more stripped down than Frank's. I get the Morrison comparison you're making, there's plenty of that. Didn't get any Buckethead, other than wearing a mask, Buckethead is more about a jokey horror character who shreds on guitar.

The first Arcade Fire record they released 'Funeral', have some strong similarities with the story of Frank. For example: By the time the band recorded Funeral there were struggles between the band members because they suffer of several relatives that died in an short period of time. They also recorded that record by them selves in a family home. And there are more similarities between the movie Frank and Arcade Fire. If your interested just google the band :)
