Was it only me who felt it? A mysterious figure named Frank with a mask on his head, who in the end of the movie takes it off, and we find out it's just a broken man underneath?
And also because it features Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Don't think so. The mask was based on a character called Frank Sidebottom. In relation to Donnie Darko I don't think the man in the suit was even a broken man.
