The ending song

Does anyone think that the ending song could have been their first hit. All the other songs through the movie were pretty odd and certainly not my cup of tea but the last song that Frank sings without the mask was really good. It had a good melody and catchy chorus. I could certainly image hearing that one on the radio.

“I've always wondered if there was a god. And now I know there is - and it's me.”

I thought he'd already written that song and that we saw them performing it earlier.

Except I don't like the idea that now they're going to create mainstream music. The whole point of the movie was that it wasn't their thing, in spite of Jon's efforts. And it shouldn't have to be, and it shouldn't be the only definition of success.

I agree, it shouldn't have to be the only definition of success, but it kind of makes it transcendent. It's not that it's popular, it's that it's classic. Perfect in it's honesty.

I see the ending as simply being about him accepting himself. Note that they resume their places and Jon leaves, with the inference being things are back to how they should be, just with Frank able to face himself. That's what I felt, anyway.

No, the song wasn't done. He was taking observations around the room, and finding his inspiration, much like that scene with the carpet fiber.. The band all played together long enough at that point, to just basically play off one another..
