You have to wince through this whole film to discover that ....

***** If you have not seen this film there is a spoiler below. There was not room in the subject line to warn you so I am doing it here. *****

.... Chang does not forgive Julian (Ryan Gosling) at the end. The title of the movie tells you how it ends. Chang not forgiving because only God Forgives.

I must mention every scene with Chang is painful to watch. I cannot imagine anyone acting worse. The slow walk and weird stare before he kills people has to be seen at least once by everybody, it is horrendously acted. Then the actual sword use is the cherry on top because any woman who has never held a sword in her life would have done a better job.

Chang is supposed to be God and he did forgive Julian

In various interviews with the director and actors, it is mentioned that Chang is god. Now for the forgiveness, Julian is seeking forgiveness for his killing his father with his bare hands, which is why in one scene it shows him looking down at his hands and seeing blood (also the camera often shows his hands). When Chang cuts off his hands, he frees Julian from his burden he has been carrying. On another note, in a deleted scene it depicts Mai feeding Julian pudding, which shows how he is learning to have a normal relationship.

"When Chang cuts off his hands, he frees Julian from his burden he has been carrying"... personally I think nothing good at all could come from having both hands cut off...but that's just me. So what you're saying I cannot understand. Sorry, not to be rude or anything I just don't get it.

I think the Asian police chief (Chang) was the coolest character in this movie. And also very well acted.

The mother was the only bad actor
